Louisville medical billing firm ZirMed Inc. eliminated some jobs this week in an overhaul of its customer service operations. Jim Lacy, the company's chief financial officer, declined to say how many jobs were cut. He said it was less than 5 percent of the overall work force, which would be 16 based on the company's total head count of about 320. (Zirmed has the equivalent of about 305 full-time jobs, he said.) ZirMed's business has ballooned since the company was started about 10 years ago, and about a year ago it consolidated offices into the new 12-level glass ZirMed Gateway Towers at Roy Wilkins Avenue and Market Street, across from Glassworks. Lacy said the job cuts are not related to the strength of the business, which he predicts to grow 20 percent to 30 percent this year, but rather "a shift in the types of employees that were necessary to serve our customers."
