Why are you surprised by know-nothing principal software engineers in a company where you have a CTO without a legit bachelor's degree?
Seen Principal Software Engineer knows less about software compare to a new grad. Amazing

Looks like WD is going to poke up China, two years after pissing off Toshiba. Great way to “continue to lead ..”
WD’s odd of closing its door just got boosted by 3x.
There is nothing to love but the paycheck. Don't get me wrong, the paycheck is good, but it ain't THAT good. Where to start...
They hire you (me) based heavily on the pipe dream of the STI, then take it away before the first payout
They have almost as many VPs as engineers and the MO of these VPs is to come in after all the work is done and start griping about "why this" and "why that" causing weeks of BS meetings and presentations defending the current design or offering alternatives, only to wind up right back where you started because my god, maybe you knew how to do your job afterall. Then of course you get yelled at when your deadlines slipped because you spent all your time on that garbage.
The departments that should be cogs on the gears of success (procurement, marketing, CMs) are too lazy to do their own jobs so the engineers have to do it for them instead of the engineering we're actually paid for.
The current executive message is crystal clear: "we don't care how hard you work or how much value you bring, you are on the chopping block so I can maintain my standard of living"
And to all of you j--koffs who are claiming the only nay-sayers are ex-employees bitter that they got laid off, please stop being your VPs errand boys and wake up. The mojority of the nay-sayers are the poor b--tards stuck in this WD nightmare who have no choice but wait for the innevitable HR side-bar where they tell us we are no longer valuable enough to feed our families!
The ones who got laid off have no need to be here, the deed is already done for them. The ones still coming back are the ones waiting to find out if they are next...
Great company, Great Engineers ,Decent pay, free bagles and oatmeal in San Jose, Reverse Communte are plus.
Lack of growth opportunities, Poor bonus every second year, low stock grants (poor stock performance ) and uninspiring leadership (some dont know what to say, other say too much).
This is what you get to read on glassdoor. Unlike here where in the name of anonymity , a ton of garbage is unloaded.
Unfortunately this website has the most reach to WD employee, thanks to the great job by WD executive team. Good job!
I don’t think you should ask this question on a layoff site. There are plenty of things to love about it. Go look at glass door. Talk to the people who work here that aren’t on the lay-off site venting
