Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Is this the reputation HP wants?

All Contingent Workers (CW) on projects on the Print side of business are being furloughed for the month of July. Management thinks it is fine to cut out a month of a person's pay with no reason given, and then expects that same person to want to return? This must be the reputation HP wants...

Unemployment benefit in OR is closer to $700 a week max. In Idaho it is around $450 a week max.

So...unpaid for the first week, then a calculated fraction of your regular rate, capped at $410 per week by law, for three weeks. Great deal.

Keep in mind that many of those that went on furlough were able to collect unemployment benefits for any time over the waiting week required by the state. They were not unpaid for all of that time.

OP update: As of last week I think we have our answer: A drowning man's thoughts are not on how he will dress for dinner.

“The whole month of July” is now over. Some CWs on some MPS projects were furloughed for four weeks (20 working days). These CWs were unpaid for those four weeks. Is that rhetoric or fear-mongering?

My team (CW only) in Corvallis has a 10 day mandatory furlough. Week of July 4th, all CW's are on furlough. The rest of the 5 days are the CW's choice of which days they want off. I know of one CW that is on part time (20 hours a week) and they are still requiring that person to take furlough days off too. Agencies affected: K-Force, Lionbridge, Paradigm, and others.

RE: Corvallis location - not all print teams are affected. Furlough is based on team and not agency. Most of those that are under the required furlough will be notified soon if they have not been notified already.

Corvallis has some CW companies on furlough. One has a 10 day furlough, not sure about the other yet.

Not quite true. CWs are being furloughed the week of July 4 in the US.

“The whole month of July” statement is rhetoric and fear- mongering.
