With the reduced front-end hours, full-timers are not affected but part-timers are. Fair enough I suppose. However, as a part-timer who just got done with a grueling four day stretch of mid-shifts in photo, I have to say these full-timers should be expected to perform above their current cashiering duties and comfort level. If Walgreens is getting leaner then it should be mandatory for all front-end employees to be cross-trained in photo and be forced to share in the photo shifts. Anyone else agree?

I'm a Beauty Consultant and I'm expected to run photo while at work if a customer needs help or an order needs taken care of. That includes making a canvas or flip book... If the person scheduled in photo is busy, and the front cashier is busy, then it's my job to run photo. In fact, I'm expected to run the front register at times and put up freight and millions of other things. However, not everyone is expected to do things. I also get written up if I breathe funny and others just breeze through life, but, that's another story.
At my store our cashier's are not allowed to move from the front register for any reason. Management is fully in charge of photo. Also no one is allowed to do 1506. Management is responsible for everything even facing we do it alone every night. We only close with one cashier and they aren't allowed to help us.
In my store I expect everyone to know everything. All shiftleads are trained in pharmacy, everyone knows photo, everyone can perform basic functions using a telxon (claims, periodic counts, vendor receiving, markdowns.) On any given day you might see the store manager doing passport photos, shift leads covering pharmacy, cashier checking in vendors and the ASM(me) cleaning the toilets! We ALL have to be willing and able to do every job.
The stores in my area got rid of the photo position years ago. Every employee is expected to know photo
It depends on the store manager. At the store I work at, front cashiers are trained to do light duty in photo as needed when there are no customers up front, especially if I or the other photo employee are not there. Light duty in photo includes retrieving customer orders, helping customers on the kiosk, and printing simple print orders. Very competent employees are taught the advanced photo duties (canvas prints, boards prints, etc) as time allows so they can pick up photo shifts as needed.
