SAP promised to treat employees fairly. Fair severance pay but the promise of healthcare coverage was a joke for all impacted in the US. My last day was April 30th at SAP and Cobra documents were sent to me on May 24 and invoice came in mail on June 1. So I get to pay for both May and June coverage today even though May is behind us.
Thankfully I did not have any medical issues in May but giving Cobra $1129.07 per month was a waste. When I called HR Direct they told me, Oh don't worry You would be covered but you would have to pay 100% out of pocket and then file for re-imbursement from your Cobra election. WTF! You are obligated to pay it despite anything if you want the continued coverage until the end of year. This is for Medical PPO plan and Dental for 1 individual. I think I will need to shop around but am fearful of not having any coverage so they get $1129 per month from me. Of course SAP lumped the medical $$$ in with our severance pay so we are taxed at a higher rate. Just a heads up to anyone next on the chopping block in the US with pre-existing health issues.
