I am planning to join NM as a Senior Software Engineer in next 2 weeks and got to know a lot of strange things about internal politics/layoffs and instability. Is it really not safe to join NM NY at this point in Tech area?

Wouldn’t buy into the negativity. NYC office is a cool culture. New CTO seems smart, funny, and experienced. The hours are nice and good for families, pay is decent, benefits are just OK. Some people got fired, but anyone still around will tell you they’re not surprised. It was the people mailing it in and below average performers (ie, not the people you’d want around anyway).
If you are in NYC...there are by far much better places to work. Just do yourself a favor and turn down the offer. I was laid off and while scary, in the end the best thing to happen. I landed right back on my feet quickly and for more money.
You can probably find a better place to work. The current CEO, Schlifske, has been laying off employees and offshoring every job possible for the past 2 years. That amount of employee churn causes a lot of organizational break down.
NM NY's current location is not going to be here for long. They are planning to move to different locations. Considering CTO's exit- it's clear that NY is not going to stay else she wouldn't have moved out.
Everyone needs to relax. I work at NM in NY and I am an engineer. I’m having a blast and we have a lot of great challenges ahead. NM NYC is secure and here to stay for a long time to come.
Does that mean they are committed to operating the NY Office but fire employees on needed basis :)
“NM” is committed to the NYC office, just NOT the NYC employees. Get ready to get bamboozled!
Oh ! thats Scary.. what is bad though? I still have time to change ...
If your career goal has always been to become a crew member on the Titanic, then congratulations you just landed your dream job my friend.
Keep your resume updated and if you happen to receive calls for interviews at other places be sure to attend them.
