From what I got out of the article is that one property investment firm sold a few Walgreens stores to another property investment firm. There was no mention of the Walgreens closing, just that the ownership of the physical store was changing hands.
The store I work at was previously owned by Walgreens since new in 2006 and then sold off to a property investment firm a few years ago and Walgreens pays rent to them. Apparently, it's cheaper to pay monthly rent than to be liable for deferred maintenance on the building.
