As somebody posted in another thread, don't think for one moment this is over. The floodgate has been opened, and I don't think they plan to close it any time soon.

That’s 500 out of a much smaller number because just one business unit. Also that is just this month! We all know there will be other RAs across other BUs and geographies. So let’s not sugar coat.

The facts are Lenovo does a great job of obfuscating the truth of layoffs and financials.
DCG beaten to the finish line of profitabilty by Moto phone sales. Get real , DCG is a loss making business, with a reduced line of credit from Lenovo.
Lenovo profits all generated by PC company. Moto breaks even. DCG loss making enterprise.
DCG has losses , every quarter. Quarter on Quarter. USA is the biggest losses. Overpaid , over rated .
Or in the words of LENOVO leadership yesterday on the DCG All Hands Call: We're experiencing "Headwinds...". Fueled by record profits? He missed a huge opportunity to build credibility with the troops. Folks want transparency, honesty, and facts. We got spin. In the meantime, critical resources are getting cut which impact our business and customer experience.
Lots of speculation on this thread. The Data Center BU made a pre-tax loss... so it isn't surprising they are having some layoffs. 500 globally out of 57M employees... is a small amount. We need to stick to facts... rather than doom and gloom. Globalisation has definitely made employment less stable, but China salaries keep on rising, and are much closer aligned to the west as time passes, and workers want more and more benefits, etc. What goes around comes around.
Slave labor is always cheaper. Look at the ancient Egyptians and Romans
