I managed to relax a bit since the last round of layoffs, but the more June is approaching, the more is my anxiety returning.
If this continues for much longer, they won't have to lay me off. I'll leave on my own. This kind of stress is not good. There other companies outside of Western Digital that treat their employees better.

WD Has two customers Amazon and Best Buy they have a SVP that lives in Vegas on top of a hotel that can’t do jack. This is the same person that works for bel micro and see sold empty boxes of bricks to resellers to claim revenue
WD VPs, while at Pebble Beach, pls be aware Seagate 16TB HDD is available for purchase. Go buy some and do some reverse engineering so you can claim continued leadership.
Not really that nervous here. I have made peace with my future at WD. If our VP ships our department to penang at the end of the month, great. It saves me the trouble. If not, no worries, come end of August or beginning of September I'm leaving on my own. I'm done living under constant fear and uncertainty. I'm done being told I can't do my job because we have to save money while Penang literally flushes millions of dollars down the drain. I'm done doing everyone else's job in the company because they are too lazy to do it themselves, then getting repremanded for missing my deadlines. I am just done with WD. Get the blood you can from me now Milligan, by the end of this summer I'm out one way or another.

1 -- compared to prior announced big RIF a few months ago, RIF in June is smaller and more targeted
2 -- VPs told at the leadership conference that each department needs to make further cuts. Departments to be given their target number. Sorry folks, this means more layoffs.

There's more to life and work than Western Digital . Worked there about 18 years in HDD (took the plunge last year and bailed with no offer in hand), having witnessed the deterioration in management style and increase in politics over the last few years (think small drying pond with lots of fish). was very rough for a while but things worked out. Way too many worthless managers and directors and no critical mass to get real work done. The current management is a joke (poor technical skills, highly insecure and hanging on by whatever it takes to their jobs because they know they wont get another one in the valley based on their skills) and trying to stretch it out until retirement. The dredges are remaining in the company. The smart and self assured ones have already disembarked this ship(err boat?) a while back.
The difference between WD and Titanic: Titanic was sunk by an external glacier while WD accomplished the sinking all by itself while claiming “I am the leader, I am the leader ....”.
WD VPs, while enjoying the Pebble Beach before the June layoff, have you guys ever got some time to think about why WD (a continued “leader”) market cap is only $10.8B vs Seagate $$11.8B? A slightest clue if any?

If you have to constantly justify yourself and your position, it only tells that the company is badly managed and structured. The writing is on the wall. Get out while you can before too late.
Is it bad that a part of me WANTS to be laid off? I mean I know we'd be screwed financially and it's slim pickin's around here for engineering work, but I'm so sick of this c-ap. We spend more time defending our jobs than doing them. We're under constant attack from our asian counterparts practically begging our executives to give them our jobs, and our executives' only response is "if you want to keep your job, you better make yourselves more valuable".
For what it's worth, through some questionable practices, it is confirmed there WILL BE a layoff at the end of June... here's to hoping...
Not me. 4-5 times CEO comes on stage and tells you when you going to cut. He was on stage and didn’t say anything. So surly there will be some modular chunks. But nothing worth talking about
During the last 3 years, US economy went through unprecedented expansion, yet WD went through the most miserable time of all kinds. If you have any talent, you should jump to different opportunities.
For young college grad, your last choice should be WD. It will waste your youth.
