More workers coming to work sick due to Walmart's new attendance policy

This is just a fact. More workers coming to work sick due to Walmart's new attendance policy.

What kind of management is this? What kind of attendance policy is this?

This is not fair to the sick worker, this is not fair to everyone else.

People come in sick, make others sick and in the end both Walmart and the workers lose.

This was not well thought out.

I hate the attendance policy. I'm sick rn and only take time off when I'm sick. I'm trying to keep to myself and not spread illness, but we work 3 to a spur and constantly have to communicate with each other in a loud warehouse. It's not possible to make 4500+ while working and sick among other things like the shipping lines breaking down all the time. I apologize if I have gotten anyone sick, but it's Walmart's policy and we're all collateral damage.

I agree with all these comments, abuse will always be there. Attaching points to my share AND breaking it into pay grades with the hardest working getting less on top of points docking it is the bad part. Perfect attendance bonus should be by itself. $50 or whatever. I do agree with it being more based on actual hours worked.

All I know is we have to have an attendance policy for those who abuse it. The good associates in turn suffer for it. If associates just called off for illness or emergencies then there would be no need for the policy, but unfortunately that is not the case. In my store I noticed that the associates that rode the 8-8.5 train were the first ones to get to 4. It seems kind of funny how these associates can be “sick” all of the time, but when they get to four points they miraculously find the cure to what ails them.......until a point drops off, then darn sick again.

Those who abused the attendance policy before will continue to abuse it now. Have seen a lot of id--tic posts on Reddit of associates that take off/leave early as soon as they accumulate a little PPTO. When they need it in a real emergency situation, they will start b--ching and moaning about how unfair the system is, just like they did under the old system,

Ppto would be ok if the mgt or PC would stick to the policy and make up their own rules on how to use it. Needs to be automated when you use ppto that it cancels the point instead of chasing down mgt to fix or approve it

Associates have nobody to blame for this but themselves. Too many people wanted to not show up for work and play the points game; well this is the product of that. And yes, far too many managers played favorites and excused points that should NOT have been excused; but that doesn't change the fact that the associates accrued those points in the first place.

Is it a shame that legitimately sick people are getting screwed by this? Yes it is. But unfortunately that's all too often how life goes.

I have seen countless times when people get to 5 or 6 or even 7 absences for calling in and miraculously the next day the absences are rolled back to 3 or 4 and not by Personnel either. What happened to fair and consistency? Really? It depends on who you are and why you called in. I say treat everyone the same and QUIT approving absences for those who are constantly calling in.

OH PLEASE I CALL BS. After 35 years this is the worst call in year ever!... PPTO is awful. I would be willing to bet that the person that thought this up is a college degree kid who NEVER worked in a store. You have PPTO now, then you do not even have to qualify for FMLA and all you get is 2 points even if you miss a week, so Please Don't complain...OMG! At this rate you can come and go as you please.

Oh poor babies have to come to work now. I am ecstatic they changed the policy. As one of the people who comes to work consistently, I hate having to cover for those who call out constantly. I'm a claim supervisor and our DSD calls out all the. It s*cks to have to cover for her constantly and then I get yelled at for claims not getting done, especially with this new program in claims. The DSD girl already has 5 occurances but they won't fire her because they don't want to have to train someone else.

How many people call out just because they want to be off that day and don't want to come to work? Walmart implemented PPTO, reset everyone's attendance, is open to LOA, and those same people still end up riding the line just like before. Many factory jobs have a 3 and out policy with no parachute. Just come to work...

The issue has never been the type of sick policy that Wal-Mart had. The problem was always management not enforcing the policy, playing favorites for one and not another. Because there was no fairness or consistency in the past the associates are punished. Also with this new policy some management still have personnel approve the points. Sometimes management are the ones that causes the most problems with policy.
