This restructure is an absolute abortion. You have already been told these ridiculous centres of excellence wont work. BHGE have already tried it and dropped it after 6 months because it doesn't work. It may be what you want but it is not what your customers want. Wake up, if you don't give your customers what they want then they will go else where. No customer in their right might will wait 6 weeks for you to ship their part half way round the world all because you want it machined in a certain location. Those jokers you consulted about the restructure don't have a clue about this industry. You can't adopt the same methods from a Formula 1 motorsport factory in to the oil industry, it's a completely different environment.
While Dril-Quip are cutting their man power everyone else are manning up and as per usual Dril-Quip will be behind everyone else. The BHGE website has approximately 100 positions to fill in Aberdeen alone, machinists, inspectors, apprentices, you name it they want it. This is only one company, never mind the rest. They pay better wages, more holidays and an overall better package, do you really think people will want to come to Dril-Quip when you decide to hire in 25 years time? Current employees are leaving in droves. Yes we all know Dril-Quips attitude "let them leave, we will replace them and if we can't get people then we will sub-con.". Do you think Dril-Quip have a monopoly on all the sub-con shops? You will very quickly run out of sub-con shops as other companies also look to sub-con work because if Dril-Quip haven't realised they aren't the only company that manufactures parts for the oil industry. To top it all off from past experience 35% of your sub-con work all had to be reworked so any money/time saved were then lost.
Finally, 5s is a joke. Sorry I meant 6s because Dril-Quip is special and the 5s system that was developed by Toyota the largest car manufacturer in the world isn't good enough. It's never going to work because you think by having a spring clean, moving some equipment and machines about and painting some nice pretty yellow lines will somehow increase efficiency. Dril-Quip always try to do everything on the cheap and make do rather than do it properly. You need to invest and spend money on modern machines, tooling and equipment to move in to the 21st century like all the other major players are doing. The longer you stick on this crazy course the further Dril-Quip will fall behind. You are so narrow sighted with selfish ambitions that you think by penny pinching for the next few years it will keep shareholders happy and keep you in a job while protecting your pension and obscene bonus until you retire to the vineyard. If you don't have the vision to bring Dril-Quip in to the future as a big player then do the decent thing and step aside to let someone in who does.
