Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Let's Talk About Some of the Changes

'The Essence of Walmart is Change'... That was a key saying when I started in that business in early 2001. Well......Indeed. There have been some changes over time-----like, incentives to work there. Here's a list of what we enjoyed back in those days:

  • Full time hours. MORE. Hell, you'd be fighting to get out on time every day. I was getting an average of 50 hrs/week.

  • Full and affordable benefits options after 90 days. BC/BS, Delta Dental, vision plan and a precription card.

  • Sunday $1./hr premium pay and same for 3rd shift.

  • PTO that if you wanted or needed right away? Just call off the next day or days and cash it in.

These are but some that come to mind. I've been gone a few years, but now I understand almost all these things are either gone, or so pathetically reduced you may as well not have them.

I wish my store would coach for success but they don't coach anyone. So ur do nothing employees get by with it.

When I started in 1986, you got your birthday off. Thankfully I'll be retiring in a few weeks with 33 years of never ending change.

Another big difference: Used to be 'Coaching for success' really was just that. Management wisely took an interest in improving your performance, as they understood better employees /make for better business/ make for better profit.

Now?

It's about nothing but terrorism. No better word fits. When you're consistently harrassed, psychologically tormented and threatened with punishment for being unable to complete impossible tasks----that is terrorism. One of my favorite youtube thems to watch are 'Walmart manager - gets - beat down - by associate' vids :)
