Thread regarding Fry's Electronics layoffs

Went into Fry's in Arlington Texas yesterday...Pathetic

Shelves were empty.Hooks on wall were bare. Asked an employee about the situation and was told he was new there but said everyone is concerned about the situation. Whole isles in the tv section was empty. The place is starting to look like a ghost town. Fry's upper management need to come clean about this situation. The 50 cent hot dogs are not going to bring customers into a store with empty shelves and deer in the headlight employees.

I walked into Phoenix's Fry's store yesterday and was saddened to see how bare the shelves were. Usually the parking lot is full on a friday afternoon or a Saturday. Nope. Maybe 25-30 cars (mostly employees). That Frys location on Thunderbird was the place to be on a Friday when the ads came out. Remember getting ads? I walked in about 2-3 months ago and noticed that some things on the shelves were empty, but thought, hmm, probably going to restock that soon. Walked over to the graphics card to get gtx 1100ti and wound up spending a little more to buy a Nvidia RTX 2060 6G. Sadly, that will be the last purchase from Frys. I walked around looking all over for a 1 mail to 2 female rca adapter for my amp, and I couldn't believe it. 3 rows were completely empty, Tvs were turned on, unattended. NO ONE around. I walked all over the place, and on a regular day at Fry's back when they were booming, you always knew which ones to avoid. They were the deer in the headlights kid who thought he knew more than the typical tech junkie. Well guess what? I got that same kind of kid. Seriously. "Hey - do you have any of these cables ANYWHERE in the store?" "um, all our cables are over there.." he replied, "psst. There aren't any dude." .... "Um yeah, I know.." (so why the hell did you think it was a good idea to point me in that direction? Especially since you seen that I just walked from over there... So, just to throw him off, I had to ask a stupid question just to test my theory. "so, my old amp has 2 channels, but my new Sony only has one. Is there much of a difference if I can only hook up one of the wires? and what's that REM connection for?"

tick tock..tick tock...

"Um yeah, well, um - that's really not my speciality.. uh, sorry , I really don't know.." He walked off.

So sad. Man, when you would have walked into the car audio section, you literally would have been pounced on within seconds from the staff urging you to buy something.. I loved Frys. absolutely loved it. So sad.

Went to Arlington Tx store. 11 am 7/31/19
About 10 or 15 cars in parking lot
Mabey 5 or 6 customers, empty shelves. No stock. Lights out in some sections. Employees closed mouthed. Sad sad sad.
This was a surprise to us. No where else but Best Buy now, and nowhere near a Fry's store selection. Really SAD

I just left a Fry's in Burbank CA on 6/15/2019 and it's a ghost town. I was shocked, I have been out of town for a few years and to see this is obviously a sign of closure.

Went into the Fry's in Austin Texas on Sunday 3:30pm and the place was not well attended. Parking lot had 50 cars max. inside the store the inventory looks like it was less than half the number of items compared to what it used to be. there were plenty of employees and I went to three locations in the store looking for my item. I asked one employee what was going on and he just mentioned that they hadn't restocked after the last shopping season... Whatever that means.

I just left Arlington Tx Frys.......you know a store is doomed when the ac is off...I asked a couple of employees and I can tell they have been told not to really address it ...the days are numbered here

Fry's in Austin is the same situation -- empty shelves, no desktops or laptops in the electronics departments -- even the computer component aisles are mostly empty.

The Fry's stores in the Bay Area are also looking bad. They don't appear to be restocking. The parking lots are pretty empty. I would not be surprised if they shut down completely in the near future. All of the big-ticket items that they sell are better purchased at Costco, Best Buy, B&H Photo, or Amazon.

Fry's will likely go the way of Radio Shack. When Radio Shack shut down people were saying "darn, that's where I went to buy stuff when I needed something right away and was willing to pay a much higher price for it." A store cant survive when it's only a last resort for customers. It's a shame. I've been going to Fry's since they opened their first small store in Sunnyvale in 1985. Back then they didn't sell refrigerators, mattresses, furniture, or barbecue grills, and they didn't have a cafe.

Fry's advertises that they will meet internet prices but it's rather a hassle to get them to do that.

Arlington is a boom town...Don't know what your thinking! And Very few retailers have left Arlington. (Just the ones that have left nationwide like Toys R Us) I too have been in the Arlington Fry's and this all started happening a few weeks ago. There is no doubt the inventory is more than Half what it was a few weeks ago. There is definitely a closeout happening as we speak.

Retail has always lost most of their money during the year and made most of it during the holiday season. Plus Arlington is no longer the fastest growing city in the nation like it was in the 90s, so not a lot of new homes to be filled, and that particular store is no longer situated in a growth area. A lot of retailers have been exiting Arlington for a good long while.
