I'd assume it would depend on the type of work. Some advice would be to look at staffing/recruiting agencies for your skill set (Aerotek, Kelly Services, Aijion, Accenture, Adecco, etc.). These places can be great short term and possible long term fixes. Companies send jobs to them and they turn around and find people to fill them. If you reach out directly to one of their recruiters (Linkedin) its as easy as sending them your resume. They will then return back saying I think you fit these jobs and want to submit your resume for them. Then you get submitted and could have an interview within a few days and could even be hired within the next week. Yes many positions can be 1 yr contracts but you get pretty decent pay with benefits and it gives you an extra year to apply to other positions while working. You also don't have to fill out tons of applications as they only require your resume. Just another channel to consider. Also I am by no means saying stay or be contract long term. Get out as soon as possible. Contract jobs offer speed of hiring and money while you continue to search.
