Closure
This is part of systematic disassembly of Salem location. At it's peak it had 4000+ jobs in Controls, industrial automation and drives.
Direct result of weak Union and commercial leadership in GE.
This was announced last year. About 200 non Union employees stil remain. Their fate is anyone's guess. Site politics at GE are very strong - expect gradual move of remaining jobs to Greenville SC and closure of location in coming months.
Yes, the Salem location is permanently closing. In wind down mode now. The last Mark6e units are being prepped for Test now. The last LS2100 starters are being assembled and will be tested shortly. Multibridge will be done by the end of September. The Sheetmetal dept. will build for parts kits and for stocking for Pune, India. Sheetmeal is scheduled for closure by the end of September. Stockroom, shipping and receiving, maintenance andother support is scheduled to be done by December 1st. Over and done.
No such province as Punetang in India. May be in China.
Is this due to a complete and permanent closure of Salem location?
All Assembly work is being transferred to India, Punetang Province.
Are they out sourcing work off shore?
Real news. Thank you
