Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Does it really matter if the layoffs are over?

They are never over, at least while this leadership is in place and while the company is in this state. I’m talking about the people speculating about weather this wave is over or will layoffs continue throughout the weak. Of course, everyone wants to hear that the storm is over and that they’re safe. Unfortunately nobody is safe and nobody will be for a long time. So it really doesn’t matter whether the layoffs will continue or not, cause even if they stop, ne ones will come soon enough. That’s just our reality.

The only thing you have security in these days is your skills and experiences. I have always taken on skills that I know are marketable and in demand anywhere and simply refused to do anything that a potential outside employer wouldn't consider valuable, i.e., becoming an expert at something that is proprietary and no one else anywhere would ever want to do themselves. Keep up on industry trends, what everyone else is doing, don't wrap yourself into the company 'bubble' and become institutionalized in your skills and knowledge or you'll be doomed if you get the boot.

It’s never over! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

When this one is over, then we can get a sense of closure for now. Evaluate what has to be done and not done to move on. Once we know it is over, we can also get the new org charts. My boss was walked. His boss was walked. Feel like an orphan. No idea who I am working for. Once this is over, I better find out. Or I might be walked in June. Yes, there will be more in future years. This is #5 for me, cutback #6 might be the one I do not survive.
