By God's grace, I left GM shortly before the layoffs happened. I stayed in touch with my ex-colleagues though. Thankfully none of my friends or people I cared about lost their jobs. But it angers me that they're not actively looking for other options now. Some of them are new. But in a decade or so, they will have 12+ experience, and they will be the ones on the chopping block. It frustrates me that they still trust the Big 3. They'll probably forget everything, get complacent and move on. The only thing GM cares about is a 1:1 gender ratio, regardless or skill sets or talent.

P.S. about 3000 people are moving from my old building in Pontiac Global propulsion systems to Warren, Pontiac was a beautiful campus and somewhat new, on the inside they we're just about to start renovations for an open floor plan but all of that abruptly came to a halt around mid October, it seemed to have come out of nowhere, many of us thought great we are getting a new floor plan but instead decided to fire all of us? It was inhumane on how they handled the whole thing, completely Blindsided. GM cut very deep down to the bone, they are not hiring really just small amount of people here and there. All that's left in Pontiac will be the test lab wings and GM racing , like I said the whole complex is maybe 10 years old tops with a few older building's. As for IT I have no idea other that they cut them super deep and some would argue not deep enough, I came Pontiac so all the way around it's an absolute mess for everyone in our industry, all the news talked about is uaw and plants but they ignore the salary and contract folks big time. It's not always about the UAWs free press! Mary Barra finger points and blames the UAWs for the problems and a small portion of the tariffs.

Ex GM guy here, yes 1500 contract let go December 1st and 5000 let go in February. It was absolutely brutal at GM and from what I understand more on the way this coming August - September. I was contract and let go December 1st just before Christmas season, I worked with a good technical person that just came from Ford to my old group, she had five months in the job and was let go. Our business is a racket and it's all the same no matter where you go, I am am deeply sorry all of you have went through this yet again, Ford is litterly five minutes drive from my house in Dearborn and when I was laid off I knew I wouldn't get a job there because I had a deep feeling Ford was next. I wish I would have been wrong this time and Ford wouldn't have done this to all of you men and woman. My sincere thoughts and prayers to all of you.

They had a rough go of it over there and were brutally slashed, especially in Warren. Given a bunch of blue bags to carry their stuff out in. Yet many over there have been wishing Ford employees well. Sorry they paved the way for the layoffs but I like their class.

They are done. I think they cut 5K salaried mostly in IT. They went after the IT groups in Warren, Austin and Phoenix. They have a hiring freeze right now, so if you had plans to go and work there it's probably not gonna happen any time soon.
