Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Alumni

Hi folks. Sorry to hear this. I left in 2009 with a buyout because of this. I will tell you life outside of Ford is wonderful. You will accomplish more and make a greater difference. Trust me. I don’t want to work for a company that has to constantly make course corrections like this every decade. Look back in time and you will see. Relative to other global OEMs, the US companies just can’t compete. The reason is the leadership. Not you. Best of luck.

I posted original. Interesting fact. More people don’t work for Ford than do. Most make more money! Point: Go make a difference. Make more money and enjoy life! Ford is not the end.

I was fortunate to retire from Ford in 2015 under the PRP. All in all, I'd say my career at Ford was a wonderful experience. Still, all I really miss are the very smart people and the relationships I had with some of them. I smiled when I read (above) about the 'course corrections' made each decade. Truth is, I'd call them major screw-ups with direction of top management every 10 years. Then, the next decade or so is spent trying to recover come competitive edge digging themselves out of that hole. I think shareholder value reflects that sentiment. I feel for all those affected and advise them to use all benefits available (resume writing, networking events, etc.). As they say, when one door closes, another opens.

Wilbur is now detailing cars since he left last year & according to his daughter, he is thoroughly enjoying working for himself, at his own leisure & pace. He is now trying to obtain Ceramic Coating certification to increase profit margin.
