Layoffs no longer necessary? Good people are jumping ship - no apparent internal strategy for success. Living the quarter to quarter life is getting old quick.

If HR is monitoring this, and if you want to know what is happening stop looking at a site where people who have been affected voice their opinions and investigate these people who seem to get away with what a young career high potential would not. No one is going to give you details here. You bring us Petrotechs in from outside and put us in support roles like in IT which is fine because we chose that. But doing that while we are on a different salary grade than a PT.... inexcusable. People talk. If you want to fix it do a full internal investigation.... Just do something about it besides trolling.

I was worried about these allegations until I thought about someone in IT having s-x at work. No one in IT ever has s-x at work...or away from work.

I wouldn't say that all immigrants, petrotechs, or millenials are bad. But it is sad that some "engineers" who get paid well over 135k don't even know how to do basic math and they get by.

HR shifts people in and out. How do kids wind up being an advisor to a C?

I think I know what some of the posters are referring to. There are some people who were saved by HR and retired VP's during the layoffs. Incompetent but they found a hole to hide in. First hand s-xual harassment is prevalent especially on Friday's, and as a woman I can tell you what happened with APC will show itself, especially in what used to be REX, land, and IT. As for the HH crowd, everyone knows it but no one will say it. That is the key to promotions, especially ones that are done under the radar with no positions being posted before.

The C suite is untouchable. But the middle management is filled with perverts, especially from south america. I guess its normal practice for some IT managers to stare at female parts during meetings with the assets. I can't imagine it getting better when we move to the new location. I know I will be covering myself even more and keeping my mouth shut in meetings.

If our execs are looking for a magic bullet in the supply chain world they are woefully lost. By the time supply chain is involved, any tinkering will result in only marginal differences in economic performance.

There are only two proven ways to succeed in the domestic shale business:

  1. Own a large legacy position and let the play come to you (think pioneer or oxy in the Permian); or
  1. Hire and develop a robust geoscience staff and fund them in such a way that they can identify new plays early. Hire and develop a robust land staff and allow them to enter new plays early through grass roots leasing and trades (think EOG everywhere). This is the only way to enter at a low enough cost basis to make a material, positive impact on your economics.

It’s obviously too late for option 1. For most companies, including MRO, option 2 is the only known path to success, but the execs have to have a certain amount of trust in the geoscience and land disciplines for it to work, and that is something we have lacked.

Correct no successful strategies, a very good friend of mine in Supply Chain mentioned the leadership In Supply Chain created a project last year to snoop for other competitor strategies to “gather intelligence” from our peers. What a waste of time and energy not to mention unethical as they were all told to make sure not to represent Marathon or speak on their behalf.

If it's any shred of comfort to you, I work for another comparably-sized independent that was once highly respected that is suffering the same type of internal turmoil. I think it's widespread. The significant lack of leadership in the wake of 2014 have gutted many once-great oil firms.

I think we can all agree that immigrant petrotechs are bad - immigrants and petrotechs are both the lowest of the low, but when you combine them? Bad. Any red blooded patriot would want to attack them. But happy hours? Why attack what makes us great?

This company has become a complete farce from the pre split days where we were respected....promoting happy hour groupies and immigrant petrotechs who put on a show, and millennials who are clueless and bad mouth this country and the industry while getting paid well in the six figures as people in the field slave to meet unreasonable production numbers. The toxicity in the tower is paralyzing. If you are good at what you do and don't want to compromise yourself, there are several great organizations where you would thrive. Most of the good ones are gone. Get out while you can, look out for yourself and your family and find a home in an organization that wont k–l you.

Oxy is a premier company. No tolerance for slick race car drivers and a Blue Jeans cliche!! Marathon is a bottom feeder company when it comes to hiring people so may have the opportunity to pick up some folks who need work.
