Thread regarding Walmart Pharmacy layoffs

Tech Laid off - Galesburg IL

I was hired 5 months ago as a tech in this pharmacy.

I have worked SO HARD to learn the job, get certified, go to hours of orientation, watching endless videos! It hasn't been easy to say the least. But I decided I was not going to give up. I made it my personal mission to never miss a day of work, and do everything possible to prove to everyone in the pharmacy that they will be glad i am part of the team.

Yesterday I was pulled into the managers office and told I am no longer part of the pharmacy. I am told I can transition to another job and have 30 days to do so due to not having enough hours in the pharmacy.

I am devasted! The pharmacy just lost a great employee. I was so dedicated and realized I was going to love my job. I felt like I was I finally knew my team members. I felt as if I would stay there until I retired.

I feel like it's discrimination to hire someone and then tell them 4 months later they don't have there position, because there the low man on the totam pole. Especially when other people call in sick frequently, or have a second job that makes them leave the pharmacy short every dsy.

Why can't Walmart take just give me less hours in the pharmacy? Or take a hour or so from other techs to cut some hours? I was hired for part time, and would be more then willing to cut back on my hours to keep my position. I loved my job in the pharmacy.

I didn't accept the job under the terms that my job might be elimated in 4 months. After working so hard to learn a very complicated job with no room for error.

I feel stuck on what decision to make about staying at Walmart. I certainly don't want to work somewhere where your position is displaced whenever they feel neccasaey. I accepted a job with Walmart for the pharmacy. Not any other position.

Heartbroken, and indiscive!

Unfortunately, in most states, you are an at-will employee unless you belong to a union. That means they can terminate you for any or no reason. It's all about costs. Welcome to the corporate world. Why don't you take the skills you learned during your 4 months and apply for pharmacy tech jobs outside of Walmart?

Hang in there and do not give up on your dream.

If you love the job, you will persevere - be stubborn..

God bless...
