Thread regarding Walmart Pharmacy layoffs

Pharmacists, techs, and cashiers losing jobs yesterday and today

It was rough in our market with pharmacists, techs, and cashiers losing jobs yesterday and today... This time is just like last year - a computer algorithm is using metrics and selecting who will be axed. We were told that our vacant lead tech positions are not going to be filled (this may be temporary though - not 100 percent sure)... Also, last year they were more kind and we got longer notices - for this batch of laid off folks they're going to be out by the end of the week.

Walmart cutting some pharmacy jobs

Alia Paavola - yesterday Print | Email

Seeking to reduce costs, retail giant Walmart plans to eliminate some jobs in its U.S. pharmacy business, Bloomberg reports.

A person familiar with the decision told Bloomberg the pharmacy cuts will result in a reduction of less than 3 percent of all health and wellness employees. However, according to the posts on LinkedIn, it could mean cutting 40 percent of senior pharmacist as well as reducing the part-time workforce.

"I don’t have a lot to share right now, other than we are on a transformational journey on how we operate our pharmacies and serve our customers," Marilee McInnis, a Walmart spokesperson told Bloomberg.

She added that the company is working to better align staff number with the demands of the business.

Walmart is still in the process of notifying employees. Affected employees will have 60 days to find another role in the company, according to the report.

Walmart has pharmacies in almost all of its 4,700 brick-and-mortar locations. It is unclear which pharmacies will be affected.

For anyone located in Arizona WellCare is hiring multiple positions. I have been a tech since 2007 and have been at WellCare for the last 5 years and I LOVE it. I will never go back to retail or hospital. I have 40 hours a week with frequent OT and dont have to worry about hours being cut. Its worth it to at least check out :)

Philadelphia market here - we had multiple pharmacies lose pharmacists here, some lost two. I know about at least one pharmacy that lost a techs and a cashiers.

This round of layoffs is massive and stealthy...

I was part of the cuts yesterday. Told by the management that I could stock otc but can no longer be on the pharmacy hours. It's nuts. 4 years at this location. Been in Pharmacy for 6yrs. Just got into PharmD program so I was already moving and was the easy choice but my immediate boss wanted to keep me till they got a replacement. Corporate made the decision for him.
