So our store might be getting self checkouts. Some people are coming to take measurements to see if we qualify? My manager doesn't like the idea, says they can be problematic. What do you guys think? Are they good, or just another corporate headache? And might this lead to hours cuts and less cashiers for our store if we get self checkouts?

Overall it should help. If staff just ignore customers at checkout it will backfire. CVS has to many Negative price adjustments with coupons and discounts so if the customers has to wait for assistance they will go elsewhere next time. It's not really a hours saver except in higher volume stores.
@ Former Region Manager - Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft or Amazon?
We get ours in August among with other stores in our area
The current program is looking for somewhere around 3500 stores to get ACOs between now and the end of 2020.
Thank you all for your responses! Very helpful! One last question... If we qualify, how soon might corporate move on installing these? or is this some kind of long drawn out process?
They want 60 to 70% of transactions to be in ACO's you can do the math for the change in your store
ACO will cut FS payroll demand by 20 hours per store per week.
Might I ask what kind of hours cuts would we be looking at IF we got self-checkout registers? Doesn't have to be specific, just looking for an average for loss of hours due to ACO's.
As a former regional manager, the automated units are there only to cut labor costs. Don’t think it’s to improve the customer experience. Be honest with yourself. Front stores is dead. RX not a decade behind. The company execs are to stupid figure out how to transition to the next gen. Also I left cvs and went to work for a too three my marker cap company. Good luck
ACO's are great in high volume if you have good people to run them. I have 6 and at peak times can run two people watching them vs regular registers. Yes they will cut your hours and yes they have issues(coupons, age restricted products, weights of products etc). Also counting them is a b--ch.
If you are one of of the new low volume stores getting them then its part a cost reduction the company is doing to save money and I personally believe it will be horrible for your stores
