Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

Juniper’s culture?

How would you describe it? In three words - simple and to the point.

@ZIxpndI-Onkn It won't matter if you're a manager that it'll be "better" for you.

You'll experience hard-set fiefdoms and silos across the company that'll make doing your job cross functionally virtually impossible due to the politicing and backstabbing. If you shake the tree (i.e. just doing YOUR job) "waste of space" people from other groups will go to your manager to complain about you.

This will make you sleepless frustrated as your manager will come to you to let you know. You'll defend yourself convincingly but your manager will say to just let it go for peace (i.e. give up just enough).

This giving up "just enough" means that NOTHING gets done at the company to push projects forward.

This is why the company is faltering and why it's a Toxic Culture. Many people are getting fired (especially managers) cuz they're too expensive. It's a blanket of quarterly non-sensical firings and NOBODY is safe!

You'll waste life force in your career being in such a horrible situation. I'd stay at your current job and look for something that is truly better b/c likely you won't last 1 year and kick yourself for being so stoopid.

Read the threads and inform yourself!

@ZIxpndI-Onkn. You’ll be fine for a couple of years. It takes awhile for the soul-crushing mendacity to start-in. It’s not a terrible place to work, just not what it used to be. Who knows, maybe the board will make some real changes and things will improve.

I say as someone who left this year. I don’t regret leaving because I was stagnating there. But there are good things and you’ll be in position to make an impact.

holy...I just accepted. Start next week. Obviously, I didn't do enough research. It's a manager role though. Is it worth it? Don't have any other offer expect maybe to plead my current company to retain me.

Good on ya for reconsidering.

You could waste 2-3 good years of your career with no growth or salary increases before you reach an epiphany...that is if you don't get riffed before then, which is a 75%+ possibility.

Used to be so great. New ideas rewarded, risk taking encouraged, a sense of camaraderie and esprit de corps. Now though it’s a blood bath. Company invested in the wrong things and lost the leadership role in our industry.

In a word? Lost.
