If I stayed with Walmart, I would have been there 20 years. I would likely be looking for a job right now. 😔So sorry to everyone who have lost their jobs. Large health systems and hospitals often have outpatient pharmacies so I encourage everyone to look into it. You will be considered a valuable member of a healthcare team.

I’ve been with Walmart in OR for 5 years. Became a technician trainee 1 year ago. I transferred into the store I am in now. We were short handed for a few months, which meant I was the only technician for my whole shift. We finally got some help this year. And now I was just displaced yesterday. They are saying there is no reason why. Thankfully I might be able to transfer to another store but it breaks my heart all the people that don’t have that opportunity. Crazy how Walmart can just get rid of your job no matter how hard you work for them.

I’m no longer at Walmart but I’m still in contact with some of my former coworkers. SE Kansas lost 2 RPh and 6 techs over the last 2 weeks and the feeling is that it isn’t over. Consensus seems to be that pharmacists will be doing 12 hr solo shifts more like CVS and Wags models. 👎🏻

One of my pharmacists was let go yesterday in West Virginia. No notice! How c-appy. We are suffering working short with techs and now pharmacists, people are going to be unhappy and move to other pharmacies.

I am still in shock, I am staff pharmacist for last 3yrs, with Walmart and 19 yrs total experience. I was called in from my PTO (still had 5 days before I had to return to work) for a meeting. Showed up and was told that my position was no longer needed, that it had nothing to do with my performance and that a computer program picked me. I was given the 60 days to reapply for other positions, that don't exist, and that details on a severance package would be mailed to me. This is not a good time in history to be a pharmacist jobs are disappearing fast and there are to many students graduating from pharmacy schools. As a pharmacist for the last 2 years I was paranoid that this was coming, I just see the state of pharmacy going down the drain on a daily basis. #NEEDAJOB

Columbus Ohio lost two flexors that I’m aware of, this has been rumored for awhile, our third round. Based on what I’ve seen and heard, I expect more. The “restructure” action has yet to be announced via conference call or otherwise.

Haven't seen or heard of anyone getting let go in my district. (Florida). There is word on the Walmart street that we are on a hiring freeze, though.

To those affected, was there a call last week for PIC’s only?? There is one this week where my wife works in the southeast, so we expect it will start hitting this region later this week or next week.

For anyone located in Arizona WellCare is hiring multiple positions. I have been a tech since 2007 and have been at WellCare for the last 5 years and I LOVE it. I will never go back to retail or hospital. I have 40 hours a week with frequent OT and dont have to worry about hours being cut. Its worth it to at least check out :)

The Department of Justice is investigating Walmart’s violations in the subjective blacklisting of Doctors. This will likely cost Walmart billions in fines and goes to the top of their corporate structure. Layoffs likely for purposes of getting rid of employees that could /can testify about Walmart’s unlawful practices and subjective refusal of controlled substance pr-scrip-ions denying care and violations of patients’ bill of rights to free choice of healthcare providers and usurping pharmacists’ professional judgement. If any previous respondents relating layoffs are aware of information related to this as a cause for layoffs they should contact the Assistant Attorney Generals in their States.

" I am very uneasy about my future and the future of retail in general." ...says it all.

This is a move to cause Owners an increase in income. Anyone familiar with a keyboard can process the script and get paid 1/3 of a tech or 1/8 of a licensed pharmacist. But of course it is the personalized service that is most valuable.

Walked out today. Austin, TX. Pharmacy Manager. The same story like the rest of folks here, rah-rah given, business decision, cost management, rough seas ahead... All of this while tax cut billions are being stashed... I will move on but the bitter taste will remain forever.

I wish you all the best, I had an awesome team and I hold no ill feelings against any of my co-workers...

Good luck all.

staff pharmacist in houston area laid off today; DM gave some BS about “being displaced” and could apply for other positions if available; have 60 days to find position within walmart or take severance package- no concrete details about anything.... “business decision” was the answer to everything

All we can hope is that this does go viral and the public is made aware of exactly what is going on. Otherwise I can almost promise you that this show will eventually come to a store near you. It is no fun getting a professional degree only to be let go and escorted out of the store like a common criminal for no reason whatsoever. The most upsetting thing is Walmart reportedly received a 2.2 billion dollar tax cut per year from last years tax cut(just google the story). So they have an extra 2.2 billion dollars in their pocket every year that was supposed to spur job GROWTH but they are doing just the opposite.

Was literally told that the firing was based on analytics. Fired by computers. They do not realize the extreme impact this will have on patient care.

Here are some Tweets, just in case someone doubted the layoffs (Like So Cal Tech below):

@RxAndrewBoard

Apparently Walmart laid off a bunch of pharmacists and other pharmacy workers today. I worked there as an intern years ago and thought it was great. Sad to see what is happening to the pharmacy profession now.

@RxGurl1

When they announce layoffs in your district & you slowly watch others fall around you....it's like playing a very extreme version of Duck-Duck-Goose

@PhlawlessPharm

Was told by a Walmart staff pharmacist this weekend that a store in our area told a pharmacist with 20+ years in that they had to go part time or they were out of a job 🙁

@mmeganred

Walmart apparently let a computer randomly fire a bunch of techs and pharmacists. So like the sh--tiest worker had the same chance as the best. So sad.

@1upy on the views question - this thread is going viral on FB & Twitter... I'll post some twitter updates so people can see it's for real - the layoffs happened today, and it was massive.

They are hiding it from the media again but I am sure there will be some media coverage.

Got a call from my mgr and since I was off today let it go to vm. He said we are expected to cut 40 RPh hours per 2 wks. He and I are the only 2 regular pharmacists. And work on a new template. And close everyday from 1:30-2. He gave me no other details, but I expect it to be something like 12 hr solo shifts going forward..or very close to it. We were running 8 hr shifts with 3.5 hrs overlap each day except weekends.

I'm in Oklahoma. We lost our best cashier today. We had even started teaching her some of the tech stuff in the hopes that we could get her promoted. We are left with a PT cashier who only works about 20 hours a week.

To the person in Orange County I can assure you this most certainly happened today. Pharmacy manager, staff pharmacist and techs were all affected in my market. Most had been with the company for many years but there are some that have been here longer that were not affected. From what I can see this will eventually affect most of us in the not too distant future. Especially if you have many years with the company and you are making a higher salary and have a lot of PTO. They are not going to be obvious and lay off everyone with the most tenure at one time. But they will do this in waves so that it’s not apparent that they are simply letting go of the people that make the most and have the most PTO so that they can simply rehire younger people out of school that will start with minimum PTO and a much lower salary.

I am a Walmart pharmacist in southwest Ohio. I know of at least one PIC in my district, who had been with the company for many years, that was sent packing. I am very uneasy about my future and the future of retail in general.
