I just read where some sales reps are making $100k a year? I am assuming you are talking about the DSR's (Direct Sales Reps) that go door to door. Yes, in my market (Missouri) this is accurate. Not all DSR's but their have been some making well over $100k throughout the Company. They are usually the Presidents Club Reps. This was true until this year. Due to upper mgt changes & commission plan structure changes-even the best reps have dropped to Half of what they were making. Most have left or will be leaving soon. Territory changes have also changed. If you were hired to work a territory in your surrounding area, now you are required to drive up to a couple of hrs out of your turf to sell in other markets. Which is sales, but! You do use your personal vehicle, your gas, your wear & tear. It adds up fast. Increased oil changes/maintenance on your car-all out of pocket. Before, if you were in the territory you had been hired for-close to home, you could run by the house for lunch, etc. Now if you need to get out of the sun for lunch & out of your car, you have to buy lunch. Just another expense. Also, when they made our commissions paid once a month, due to calendar mos. it is set up where two-three times a year you will go up to 40plus days without a good check. A family living on half of what they made the year prior, plus spending more out of pocket to work, it has been a hellofA Ride! When you do primarily live on commission (salary is nothing to brag about) yes, you may on paper make $10,000 or more a month! Before TAXES. Again, just the chosen life of a sales rep! But taxes taken out are between 30-40% OUCH! So now, the guys in Arkansas/MO that were k--ling it & still making good numbers for the Company, bring home around $4,000-$4,500 a month with the months that you don't get a good check for 2, it will run you tight. Once you get used to a certain income, your bills/lifestyle usually match that income. To drop so drastically is a k--ler to the family budget! Management said "It is NOT a pay cut" over & over again! They said they were going to start paying reps on the certain equipment a rep sells. Payroll dept (which is outsourced by contractor's, at least that's what we were told), did not know that reps were to be paid on equipment upgrades sold. When we told the new upper mgt he said, "Sorry not happening & don't bring it up again"! We work in all weather-that's the job we signed up for. We fight for every sale & if we lose a customer too early we get charged back for what we had earned. We lose a lot of customers due to things outside of our control! Like lines not being hurried in their yard, a contract employee was rude, billing errors that don't get fixed, etc. Your check can be negative $$ & you owe the company for outside issues & the loss of customers! This is not a potty party. Again it's the nature of the beast working for a big corporate co. But it was better before when we were owned by Suddenlink. Christmas bonus? Not in my market. Christmas party? It's an office lunch & we don't have the moral to stomach Christmas Office Cheer anymore. Yes-weighing my options & if things don't change soon, I will be looking at other companies.
