Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Severance and PiPs

Can you get fired without a package for being on a pip? Are the rules different in Canada and the US?

Cuts coming in July. Whether you are top performer or on PIP, it doesn’t matter - cuts happen all year for no good reason. Most are political reasons (to bring in their friends). In a good world, HR would step in to ensure fairness on who is cut. but they don’t care and just worried they won’t get fired. If you sense you will be cut, start looking. You’ll be glad

The first rule: There are NO RULES!

SP isn't willing to pay those who actually produce the sales growth.

They see that as an expense to the bottom line.

Severance is not going to be provided going forward. If you think that you are going to be a target for the cuts in July, you better start looking for different work. SP and Staples could care less about you or any future you may have.

They should let you go just for asking that question!

don't know about differences between US & Canada but you can be terminated for any or no reason whether you're on a PIP or not. Unless you have an employment contract with specifics then you are an employee at will. You can leave whenever you wish and they can dismiss you whenever they wish. Packages are entirely up to your masters & overlords. They are not required.
