Effective this Thursday, 6/20, Sears and Kmart will no longer accept American Express credit cards or American Express gift cards as a form of payment in our stores or online.

My local Kmart has a sign @ every register. No amex. Amex has some decent rewards programs so people use it. Amex has opened itself up to more cardholders. It's not so exclusive anymore. I was thinking about getting one myself because supposedly I am preapproved.
I went to Kmart today and there was a sign that they no longer take American Express so this is true. To the person who posted that no one with AMEX shops at Kmart is ignorant. I have an Amex Platinum and I buy things for the house at Kmart. I went to go check out and had to put everything back.

This is not true, we still accept American Express in our store.
Not only no AMEX, but also you can't use your shop your way points on grocery items at Kmart to pick up in store. At least online.
This strategy to make people take 5321 card will backfire. It backfired for many other retailers.
I can also confirm at my Kmart no more Amex.

Can confirm. I have an Amex card, and attempted to purchase a few items with the card. I was able to last week, and couldn't today.
It is funny because as I post this, I'm seeing ads for Amex!
Like anyone with an AMEX card shops at Sears or Kmart anyway.
I’m looking forward to the 1st member who comes in for a set of tires or a $1000 brake job then goes to pay and we don’t take their card. But the work has been done so they don’t get their car.

OK, let's just let all our customers (ahem members) get p-ss-d off when they don't find out we can't accept their card until AFTER they've spent ten minutes in checkouts dealing with everything else that usually goes wrong with all of our broken POS (double entendre intended) equipment. Seems Kmart-smart.
Email was sent out about an hour ago stating this is true. We are suppose to get amex users to get a 5321 card. Lol
It happened at SHOS 6 or 8 mo ago. Google any SHOS and call the store.
Ask if they accept Amex... Nope.

We are in So Cal. In our market a significant number of our declining appliance sales are with AMEX cards because of the superior rewards. This will not help us if true.
