500 is nothing, they could eliminate 5000 in Dearborn & nobody would notice........nobody, just ask Edsel.

Ian, you should go and write a story about what Kim Kardashian is wearing on the red carpet. It will probably be more accurate than what comes out in the Detroit rags.

It's a lot more than 500. Source: LL3 neighbor.

Hackett's email stated IT won't be finished until end of June so tomorrow is not the end.

Which is why I'm reaching out here to talk to employees. If you want to talk -- on the record, off the record, anonymously -- call me: 313-670-5403 or 313-222-2359

Calling the Ford PR department for a press release is not doing “additional reporting”. Just saying...

Yes, I did additional reporting in addition to what's in the letter. My source said it'll be 500 in the U.S. notified tomorrow.

Don’t be a d--k, Ian. The letter from Hackett to employees does not state 500 jobs will be cut tomorrow.

The story says that 500 U.S. job cuts will take place tomorrow. A total of 800 by August. And it says that those are a part of 7000 total global salaried cuts. Nothing misleading about it. If you want to talk, call me at the number above.

I'm confused, as the article specifically mentions that the note from Hackett referred to 500 employees being let go... did we receive the same note???

What I receive didn't address numbers, other than the 7000 globally and even that is confusing (in Germany alone, there are plan of 5000 departures although not all are salaried admittedly).

@osk: I'm sure Ford has been contacted and simply said "No comment".

But I recall seeing some criticism of the media that was always only relaying the Ford voice so I actually find commendable that journalists try to get in touch with people impacted by the current events.

I'm a Ford employee, but not based in NA and surely I have very little faith in the communication I receive (email from Hackett or reporting by managers) so I am glad that actual employees speak up on this site or in the media so that other employees globally can also measure the extent of the damage done by the current management (and unfortunately commiserate with those that are suffering during the long weeks prior to the layoff).

@feh, a lot of other outlets are also reporting the 500 number. I have no idea where that number is coming from, but it's not just Detroit News.
