Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I for one look forward to the week of May 20th.

With any luck the slugs will be gone by Friday May 24. I am so tired of the people who've used and abused the privilege to work for Ford. It's time to stand tall and take it like a grown adult. Those of you who agree with me and are proud of what they do and for those who disagree with me shame on you. You most likely have been a passenger of the 'Gravy Train' and must be a low performing employee.

Ask yourself this, "Can I be replaced and my duties picked up tomorrow by someone else within my department"? If the answer is YES pack your personal belongings Monday morning and expect the tap on the shoulder, phone call, text message, intercom page over the course of the next 5 days.

Well, all of us at The Layoff and at Ford hope that you are the one who has to "stand tall and take it like an adult" tomorrow. Guess we'll see who's the big man after that.

We don't want you at Ford and we certainly don't need people like you at Ford. So hopefully you get thrown out on your a-- tomorrow and are forced to learn some empathy because out of anyone, it sounds like you could benefit from a humbling life experience. We'll see if you can last a minute outside your throne of privilege.

wow yeah you're a really disgusting person, people like you are the real problem here in the US..such a toxic work culture we have. Thanks for adding to it. We are a community and should work together and we shouldn't be happy to see others suffer, we need to work together to thrive. Enough with the survival of the fittest.

One thing that you have to understand is that everybody is dispensable. You may think that your work is so important or that you so good at it that if you were to leave or let go, the company will suffer. It may cause a short term hiccup but long term the company will go on. We all have an end date on us and none of are going to be there for ever. So let's not kid ourselves into ranking others as bottom feeders or top performers.

Anyone can be replaced. Don't kid yourself, no matter how complex your job is you can be let go and Ford will still be pumping out vehicles. Have heard it many times - the qualified are the ones being let go. This is a FUBAR.

@xtr I was agency. I was called and given the news driving on my way home on Wednesday of last week. I heard the next day that many agency employees were hit. I have no idea the head count. I had 2 years in. I did hear that a lot had some years under their belt.

One day you will be the "slug" and hope you receive the same you have wished on many hard working loyal workers.

With many departments having a lot of agency folks, who will be impacted first? Full timer or agency

There is life after Ford. The drawn out process forced me to look and I got really lucky. Left Ford almost 7 weeks ago. More competitive but have lost 15 pounds and still going well. Linked in was my method and hopefully I left a spot for another. Very stressful changing but I figured less than if I got the tap. Things will get better.

OP you can dream but unless Boston Consulting Group left beer traps and copper rings around the office to identify/catch the slugs they have no idea who is a slug. Senior leadership does not know either. Ergo the unbearable stress at this circus. It is a perverted game of Russian Roulette that only a fool or a sadist would of devised.

OP must be a Plant worker or a troll — intercom page LOL — what Ford White Collar office would that be possible in?

This poster is either a troll or a malcontent or both.

First off, Ford’s white collar pension liability shrinks evety year, as they stopped adding people in 2003. Plus the white collar pension is funded anywhere from 107 to 118 % of liabilities according to company documents, so think they are OK there.

No, this reorg is simply about the current and the future...company is too big, as several vehicle lines and markets cut, and they are hedging that the future will see less vehicles developed and sold, so the company needs to be smaller for the future, as well.

Another thing - this will likely be handle very similar to the way GM handle there separations recently....a cross section of men and women of all ages. They can’t cut just pension eligible people only, as there are federal and state laws regarding age discrimination. So it will not just be the 15 and 20 years and up people ....it will depend more on the area you work in (needed in the future) and you skill set /ability to do many different things.

@OP, Slugs are "invited" to retire all the time. I have seen it many times at Ford and this has nothing to do with weeding out the low performers. This is designed to reduce the pension liability and salary of the long timers.

Sorry but that’s not what the reorg is about! It’s about cost savings. Cutting numbers because the organization is too big. They are looking at retirement eligible employees, high salary and benefits.

The buddy system does exist at Ford work place. It’s difficult to weed out the the bad ones and keep the good ones.

Bingo -fqm. the poster here, if pensioned and eligible is out on his/her butt regardless of how "proud" he is of himself. My ll6 and 5 had nothing to do with this decision, leaving competence, motivation and job knowledge pretty much sidelined for this round.

For the most part, I agree with you, but it probably won't pan out that way. To date, there have been some very competent and efficient LL4+ who have been shown the door, while the slugs at that level have remained. I am not convinced that this is all performance based, as much as it is pension / salary (future payout) based. They should have let the GSR / LL6's decide who should stay and who should go. They probably have the best insight as to where the slugs work.
