Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Another Monday and another Nerve Racking Day !

I believe tomorrow will be of the least productive days in history of Ford. People trying to sniff the news, no one can focus, and nothing really gets done.

I hope everyone can try to relax. It is almost over. We are not changing a thing. Just Try to enjoy the day

Contact someone like Mainstay Capital, they can help with all your questions. I took the lump, let them manage / invest for you! Pension $ will remain the same and cannot go your heirs. Everybody is different and they can walk you through the questions.

My brother-in-law got the axe several years ago - he should have been removed before his first 90-days.....

Obviously 1pli is talking about steps to take in the future. Clearly there is nothing that can be done now for this round of layoffs.

Somehow the white collar automotive workforce seems to have gotten it in their heads that unions are a bad thing. I'm guessing it's from seeing the UAW, which is without a doubt a flawed and corrupt union.

But people need to wake up and realize that the only way we can ever have any sort of long term job stability is through collective representation. Call it a union if you want. But the fact is that we have no power against layoffs like this when we're all just going at it alone. The company can cut whoever it wants whenever it wants.

But if all of us banded together and said "Listen, if you try to cut a bunch of us, ALL of us are going to stop work and walk out," these "smart redesigns" would not get very far. The employees hold the power over a company because they're the ones actually producing the goods and services, but ONLY when they're acting collectively to protect one another.

And yes I know there's employees out there that don't work as hard as others. So what? We need to stop letting pettiness like this get in the way of banding together to fight back against job cuts like this.

If we don't do this, we're all going to be out of a job sooner or later. People in executive positions are never going to stop squeezing. The markets demand higher and higher profits, and they will cut and outsource as much as they have to to keep increasing profits. It's a vicious cycle with no end in sight.

All of us in white collar positions need to drop this individualistic mentality and realize that even if it's not us getting cut this time, it may very well be next time, and we need to band together collectively to stop it from happening.

@Z8hKL4V-1pli They filled out the boxes for who is getting axed weeks ago. There is no fighting.

Why don't you fight for your jobs? Find out how you can do to save your employment. If we where at war os what you would do, pack up your belongings and give it to the opposing force. This will keep happening as long as employees let it. Ford could retrain the work force or offer other incentives.

They can force you to take a lump sum if they abolished the plan and did that across the board but you are correct they can only offer the option (which I believe they do) already for those retiring? Somebody else know for sure?

Agee - Ford can ask to take lump sum, but can’t force issue. However, if you are short 30 a few years, they can bump it up to entice you to take the lump sum. Have not heard that, so whom knows?

Also good suggestion is to pack up what you want and take it tomorrow. I changed buildings in December, and purposely deconted to one box, so I could just take it if the time came... so I will just take it with me tomorrow to avoid the embarrassment.

However, the big joke is on Ford - my laptop quit on me today (would not even boot up today, just hung on the black Dell screen)....so will not be able to do anything anyway, even if I wanted to do work. Which I don’t..

In normal circumstances, I would agree that there has always been the choice before: monthly annuity payments or a lump-sum payment, however, these are not normal circumstances, in my opinion, and if the powers that be can write us AND our pensions / retirement monies, off the books in one fell swoop, versus waiting until 2039 when the very last pensioners would be paid off, why would they not institute a mandatory lump-sum payoff for all these layoffs? I mean, they came out many months ago and summarily stated that the retirement plan was capped off at 35 years--whether the salaried employees liked it or not. What's to prevent them from going to the next step and saying not only are you capped at 35 years retirement, you now MUST take a lump-sum? If this whole "thing" is a cost-cutting, cost-savings exercise, it would only make financial and accounting sense to remove the pensions from the overall bottom-line equation as soon as legally possible--right?

If you've earned your pension, I don't see how they can force you to take a lump sum. It's always been a choice.

You earned your pension. Cannot see anyone forced to take the lump sum. Ford cannot do that, can they?

I'm assuming the worst and that at 60+ years of age and 25+ years of service, that I will definitely be let go. Not knowing yet how the conversation will go and what the package offered will be (aside from the already-known 9 months of salary--less all the taxes and deductions of course--and the 6 months of continued benefits), is the thought out there that we will be forced to take a lump-sum retirement amount? I tried to calculate what I would earn over the next 20-25 years monthly as a total versus the lump-sum and I truly believe the lump-sum is less overall, thus, does everyone think we will HAVE to take the lump-Doem thinking so because that will get the company off the hook much sooner than later re: pension payouts. Thoughts anyone?
