First it was the imports, then it was the jap plants relocating in the USA. Now with market share a sliver of what it once was us car .... huh ... manufacturers are done. This is only the beginning.

@Z7u6dlt-1ioi No one wants to hear your old man stories about how tough you were back in the day and it's PC culture ruining everything. The reason Ford is what it is today is because there are a lot of people with a 1970s or 1980s mindset in 2019. Competition is increasing from every angle, increased fuel economy from Asian Manufacturers, electric cars, non automobile mobility solutions, etc. If Ford is going to exist at its current size it has to excel in the products they offer and stretch to fit the markets of tomorrow. No one (especially outside of Michigan) is going to give any bonus points for being an American company.
Grammar aside all so true. The big three throughout the 70s to now became weak. Most especially in the 90s with imposed diversity initiatives which sound good in public, but are a completely ineffective way to determine who leads. The main difference I see from someone who got to management by diversity vs someone by merit is when crisis happens. The diversity candidate due to a lack of experience asks what should we do, while the merit based candidate tells the group what to do.
Our Japanese and Korean competition do not have PC culture imposed on them. Ever work with a Japanese supplier with a U.S. Engineering center? The U.S. Employees have no autonomy, all decisions are executed by the high command in Japan. The chain of command is vitally important to these companies, and as a result albeit a more slow approach decisions are made by those who have the wherewithal. Read about the salary men in Japan, these people are so dedicated to their work there is no comparison.
Ford and GM used to be ruthless SOBs when it came to competition. They would even k--l emerging competition (read the Tucker story). They even bought street car companies to dismantle them to promote automobile use. it all started to go downhill when Toyota by means of GM and Mazda by means of Ford subverted the U.S. Market. Now it's let's sink money into Rivian, back in 50s/60s both Rivian and Tesla would be six feet under, just a blip in the newspaper. Those were the good old days when the company was ran by WW2 vets that had the k--l or be k--led mentality. Now it is a bunch of soft 90s milktoast with fancy degrees that only read about the what others have done.
