Sears Cobra medical benefits termination notice

I started Cobra medical on Jan. 1, 2019. Premiums are drafted on the first day of each month. Today I received a letter, saying Direct Debit Amount Change. This stated my amount to be withdrawn on June 1 will change to zero. I elected coverage. Paid premiums. This seems to be a cancellation of benefits notice. The benefits line doesn’t open until Monday. Did anyone else receive this? Does this mean Sears has canceled group coverage?

What a way to find out family coverage is being canceled. Any information is appreciated.

@2cjt actually it was fine. They paid the COBRA premium for the six months, after which time my husband, who worked at the same company, became the insured (and I'd found a new job anyway).

It's possible that I could have kept COBRA if I wanted to pay the ridiculously high premium but it was moot.

@2cjt Only 6 months? It's supposed to be 18 months. You got screwed. If you were in California you should have called the labor board. I used to administer COBRA for my old employer.

At an old job of mine, I was offered COBRA for six months when I was "restructured" out of a job. Are you at the end of a 6 month agreement?

I just made a payment to COBRA yesterday and they withdrew funds- did not get a cancellation notice. I always check the website and my checking account because the Sears website states that if there is an error or if they get a late payment (or) incorrect account info they can cancel. The only reason I stayed with COBRA is because the Sears plan was paying for some very expensive d--gs that are not covered by any marketplace plans. However, I only need COBRA for 2 more months and then I will go to Medicare so the COBRA worked out for me well. However, if you are young and in good health then the marketplace is much much cheaper. Everyone's situation is different so one has to be careful choosing a health care plan. I also caution anyone that is thinking about retiring to check the medicare part D d--g 'formulary', you might be surprised how much your meds cost after retirement....Sears in many cases was paying for d--gs other plans won't cover (like name brands).

Hopefully it is an error or they want to bill you directly. Good luck. Let us know what happens.
