In between stores, I stopped by a mall where the Sears closed in 2013. It's since been replaced by a Ross and a sporting goods store. The mall still has a JCPenney, Hobby Lobby and a Big Lots. The town supports a Walmart. It's a town of 15,000, and Sears chugged along, decade after decade, with no problem making its numbers. Sears was a bedrock of the community, where everyone in the county got their appliances. Then Eddie somehow managed to screw that all up. There's no new competition for white goods or mattresses. Simon isn't coming here. There's no Lowe's or Home Depot. Just Eddie's godawful business sense. Why can't Sears thrive in a community of 15,000? Everyone else does. Being part of the fabric of America wherever you went was core to the Sears brand, and that's gone forever. Why should anyone shop at Seats first for anything? Well, the answer is SYW points where you can get $50 of merchandise for $2 if you know how to game the system. Congrats Eddie Lampert, you've reduced Sears' customer base to geriatric poor folks who know how to make money off of Sears.

The really sad thing about Sears fashion is that I tried to take my free sh-- to a consignment shop and they didn't even want to sell it. Sorry, these are old people clothes, we want young people clothes. Of course, Eddie thinks canvas shoes and a suit is a fine getup to wear to a gala where he has hos draped all over him, so maybe he's more avante garde than we suspect.
