Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Talk about a U-turn

How did we go from having one of the most secure and laid back jobs (not in a sense of not having to work, but in a sense of not having to worry about too many things if we did our job well) to this hotbed of frustration, uncertainty and stress so quickly? Usually it takes companies decades to make a full U-turn.

I guess Sungard was always an overachiever.

If you weren’t aware of all the layoffs over the years you guys at 680 are living a sheltered existence

It doesn’t matter if your contributions are known and valued ... its always a numbers Game .. don’t kid yourself

All I can say is that I work on the 4th floor of 680 and I feel very secure, in fact been here for a while and always felt secure.

I do see the challenges we face as a company but am confident my contribution is known and valued.

There hasn’t been job security at sungard in

Like 15 years ... 3-4 rounds of layoffs every year

OP - interesting post. This is a perfect example of YMMV. I have never found SG to be laid back and with re-org after re-org I've always felt a sense of uncertainty. I think, for you personally, you may have not been affected so it doesn't seem that way. As far as security when you do your job well - I've seen ppl terminated for simple mistakes. Sometimes it was merited, other times, it just seemed like a method to reduce staff. For awhile I worked in a culture of fear of consequences that might occur for making a simple mistake.

I haven't found my experience to be very 'even' - sometimes things are smooth and somewhat in control. Then there's a re-org and it's total chaos. The dust settles, everyone's adjusted to new roles, a new direction. Then bam, there's another re-org.

As far as security goes, in another post it was suggested not to make large purchases. I have been in that mode for the last 3 years.

If you've been in a stable role, then good on you - but it hasn't been my experience.
