Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Poor middle and upper leadership

Devon management is weak on articulating clear lines of authority and establishing strict accountability, in effect, many times promoting people they like and trusting them to figure out the job and do what what's right. Well, more than a few employees would rather attend meetings, build fiefdoms, write bureaucratic rules, spend long lunches at The Well, or simply leave early. Not most, but many. Simply poor middle and upper leadership, IMO.

Well said, @Z3uuvna-2vud.

"Devon management is weak on articulating clear lines of authority and establishing strict accountability"...this is a weakness of the "Matrix Organization". There are organizations where this type of structure can thrive...Devon is not one of them and most O & G companies are not. There are always +/-'s to making changes. You take the good with the bad and deal with it. Being a true leader does not necessarily mean a leader is the smartest person in the room...many times they are not. Intelligence and humility are an extremely rare combination. When you find it, you may have a potential leader. Anyone can lead when times are good...not everyone can lead SUCCESSFULLY when the waters get rough...that is when a true leader proves their mettle.

I hear Wide is double-jointed. No problem patting himself on the back or elsewhere.

You hurt your arm?!?!? I can’t allow that to continue. Let me see your hard hat sticker now! I am wide track. I am Devon. I have no lobes. My cereal box is missing the UPC code.

Your arm must hurt from reaching to pat yourself on the back for your comment.
