I've heard that people who give their two-weeks notice are escorted out immediately. Is this true? Why would this be the case?

As a former Qualcomm Human Resource employee I have seen the resigning employee asked to leave early. It is standard practice to pay the employee the two week notice pay.
Just don’t tell them where you are going
Haven't seen it happen at Qualcomm. Not saying no one has been walked out, or asked to leave before they planned, just I haven't seen it happen that way. I have seen many resign. I know if a few who were asked to stay longer than the 2 weeks.
I know a few who were handed layoff notices, given a 60 day end date, only to be asked to stay longer as the last day got closer. One guy said no, had a new start date elsewhere, told us he wouldn't have stayed even if he didn't already have another job.
Manager tried to PIP me, so I was prepared to quit immediately. HR talked me into finishing my current project, I suspect, with the hope I would change my mind. That didn’t happen but I did finish that project.
10 years later, did a contract gig at Msft in Seattle. The day before my contract was supposed to end, the recruiter followed me out of the parking lot to make sure I left the parking lot.
I still get calls... “wanna do it again?”
I avoid contract. It s---ed at Qualcomm. Don’t make me laugh at Msft and Apple should not be enriching the recruiters at the expense of the contractors.
if the person resigning and going to a direct competitor then HR will escort you immediately else you get 2 weeks notice......
This is common practice for most technology positions everywhere
Not true!! They are thrown down from the balcony on the 12th floor of WT as a sacrifice for SM.....
The remains are later hosed away by Chuy the janitor
