Hire to retire— lazy and arrogant culture

If you are a 3M employee, your payroll system actually has a title “Hire to Retire”. It says all about it’s culture. 3M hires smart people, then make them obsolete. It took them eight years to implement SAP, and it still is not done.

Most 3M IT folks do not have hands on skills, they all want to be leaders, how can you evaluate the schedule if you do not know the details?

No wonder stock is down and they have to have a lay-off. The culture breed arrogance and laziness.

The lay-off is a necessary shot in the arm. If you lay-off 50% IT folks, most of them will not be able to find comparable jobs.

It is sad the culture promotes leaderships rather than skills. All work is done by consultants, and 3Mers have no clue even to evaluate. Should have lay-off 10,000, not 2,000!

Former 3M employee here. Although 3M pays their employees adequately, I left the company after discovering that 3M is not innovators but followers. I wished to invent not sit in meetings. I started my own consulting company and I am doing what I want now. 3M is a good employer if you don't mind spectating and conforming.
