Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Core Hours, Hours Packages....what gives?

In our store today, management had conversations with associates with limited availability regarding core hours. Several associates came up to me saying that management sat them down and said if they didn't open their availabilities, core hours would not apply to them, and they would have less hours given to them. There are full time associates being told they would get less than 34 hours at this point. They were even told that certain positions would be offered certain hours packages and what not Last I heard, I thought full time hours was minimum 34 hours. Is this all correct?

Core hours are not necessarily all the hours you get. They are only the bare bottom basic consistent hours you get every week. Then the schedule system may or may not add hours on top of the core. So if your core is 27 hours, the schedule may come out with 36 hours when it is finalized. If your core is 4pm to 21:30, your schedule may be 12:30 - 21:30 or 14:30 - 22:00, etc., dependent on your availability. As to FT, they do not 'have' to give you any certain amount of hours. I know a FT that thought they could change their availability to 8-5 M-F from a mix of days, nights and weekends They thought Walmart would just keep giving them hours. They now get like 16 hours a week and have no core hours.

We signed the papers the first of the year about core hours. As a full-time associate in the Fresh Cap Area the core hours are only 32 hours a week. I was getting 40 hours a week, well things changed and my hours got cut to only 32 hours for the week. But I was able to pick up hours on the Cap 1 team. The managers changed positions and we got a new manager, she has changed things around not for the good. Associates with 15 or more years with the company hours has changed not for the good. Walmart needs to listen to their associates, thing are not good at Walmart. As a fullt-time associates I need 40 hours a week. Hopefully things will turn around at Walmart. I do not know if I will be there for the change.

In a perfect world (ha!), WM would have all the associates they needed to work at their beck and call. A simple call to an associate who is just hanging out at home doing nothing just waiting for that call to start a shift on demand. WM is not Netflix where you get what you want when you want.

People need to have lives outside of work to maintain their happiness. They need a consistent schedule to be able to do normal activities outside of work. Happiness/contentment outside of work translates to workers who will put up with at least some of the bulls#!t they have to go through at WM.

WM does not understand this. They continue to treat associates like wage slaves. Like property. You do what we tell you or you can find another job. This is one of the many reasons that making a career at WM is as obsolete as the Woolly Mammoth. It was once a great place to work. They truly believe they have an endless supply of workers they can easily replace if there is any hint of rebellion.

That is simply not true. Word gets out. The insiders at WM believe they have a certain reputation of 'this' great place to work. The associates on the other hand, tell their friends outside of the job a different story. And that is where 2 worlds collide.

WM needs to a simple scheduling tool and not all these 'analytics' as to how many associates are needed on each shift with a +/-1% room for error. As soon as 1 associate calls out on a shift, these 'analytics' go to sh!t. They either scramble to call a warm body to fill in or the associates already there are scrambling to pick up the slack. And customer service suffers. (As if!)

This isn't rocket science. Unfortunately, the leadership at the HO are the cream of the cr@p and don't have 2 brains cells to rub together to create a good idea.

My package was for 33 hours as a part time. MY full time co worker got 34 hours. I do not understand how this is being applied. I was told when presented with my core hours that not everyone in the store would be offered core hours. Have no idea how that decision is made. Both of us have a limit on availability. So that throws the open availability out the window
