WM would have all the associates they needed to work at their beck and call. A simple call to an associate who is just hanging out at home doing nothing just waiting for that call to start a shift on demand. WM is not Netflix where you get what you want when you want.
People need to have lives outside of work to maintain their happiness. They need a consistent schedule to be able to do normal activities outside of work. Happiness/contentment outside of work translates to workers who will put up with at least some of the bulls#!t they have to go through at WM.
WM does not understand this. They continue to treat associates like wage slaves. Like property. You do what we tell you or you can find another job. This is one of the many reasons that making a career at WM is as obsolete as the Woolly Mammoth. It was once a great place to work. They truly believe they have an endless supply of workers they can easily replace if there is any hint of rebellion.
That is simply not true. Word gets out. The insiders at WM believe they have a certain reputation of 'this' great place to work. The associates on the other hand, tell their friends outside of the job a different story. And that is where 2 worlds collide.
WM needs to a simple scheduling tool and not all these 'analytics' as to how many associates are needed on each shift with a +/-1% room for error. As soon as 1 associate calls out on a shift, these 'analytics' go to sh!t. They either scramble to call a warm body to fill in or the associates already there are scrambling to pick up the slack. And customer service suffers. (As if!)
This isn't rocket science. Unfortunately, the leadership at the HO are the cream of the cr@p and don't have 2 brains cells to rub together to create a good idea.
