Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

The Three Types of Managers

Regardless of the business type, managers tend to fall into mostly one of three distinct categories; the one thing they all have in common is they're smart enough / physically capable of doing the job. But that's it. As you read this, you'll find yourself seeing faces and names with each type:

A. 'I'm just here for the paper'. These are typically the best an easiest to get along with, because they're essentially like the common working person. They're just trying to get by. They have no real career ambitions, they just want the extra money / career perks the job brings. Their management style is casual and you rarely, if ever, have trouble with them. I worked with a guy named Derek Maschoff who fits this category, great dude.

B. 'This is my fast track to success'. These are typically the same as A. ---their personalities are ok, but because they're ladder climbers, they're more prone to write up / fire people to make themselves look tough to their superiors.---BTW, let no one fool you: Walmart management, especially, are financially compensated for their 'body count'. I know this for a fact. ... Over all they're cool, but they're definitely on a self-absorbed agenda. There are several I worked with who this fits; one name is Drew Heidemann. A hormone-driven pervert ridiculously close to a 'Me-too' misconduct charge at any given time, but otherwise an ok guy.

C. 'Life has beat my a-- down and now I'm gonna beat YOURS down too'. These .... 'people' are sadistic bullies, some being out-right psychopaths, for who it's really not about the extra money OR the career climbing opportunities. It's about the power. They genuinely derive pleasure from keeping people scared, intimidated, and psychologically off balance, living in a constant state of anxiety and depression. The worst part is they're the last to go. On the one hand, upper management likes them on board as their personal attack dogs (make no mistake about that either---if you run into trouble with one of these types, it will do you no good reporting them to their superiors, at least on the store level: tho those folks will claim no knowledge of that manager's behavior, but will 'swear to look into and address thisi!', they not only DO know...but greatly approve), but on the other hand, because no one respects or likes a rat, these abusive punks are never allowed to advance. The biggest move you'll see them get is put on nights. ............ I had the misfortune to know a woman named Crystal Kay who this absolutely mirrors every facet of her warped personality. She truly is not happy unless she's been a part of creating abject misery and degragation for you and, as above stated, she will very likely still be stuck in her assistant role in that same store (#2728 in southeast Decatur, Il) until the end of time... or her pointless life.

So that's it. reflect on this a little, and, as I said above, you'll know peeps from each category. Unlike O.J.s glove, this theorum fits perfectly.

My past manager snitched on the former manger. And jumped from an assistant manager to a store manager. And at the same store. So he was in a cushy position. Made everyone's life a living hell.

He'd jump onmy back daily. One shift. I got tired of it. And threw it back at him. He wouldn't even look my way for six months, let alone speak to me. Last November he got promoted to personal at regional. Only after 18 months as store manger.

They recently found out he padded inventory by calling DC and telling them we were missing two pallets of water a week. And the DSD associate that helped him got promoted to head of AP at another store. With all the facts in place. Nothing has been done.

Those must've been some big golden balls to cup!

Porterville, do what I did: E mail and call Ethics----and threaten a LAW SUIT. That stopped the whole show. ---- I ultimately still ended up leaving, but for THAT set of issues I was dealing with when I Harry Truman-ed those sadists, I got some action done. Walmart does NOT want a court fight or even a settlement hearing.

@porterville here. We have tried several times reporting to ethics as harrassment is one of the things they are supposed to correct. They always say it is an HR issue and they are forwarding to HR yet nothing is ever done. Tired of being treated like c*ap and it being ok. I've worked a very long time for this company. I shouldn't have to give up what I've earned and start over, but it's getting worse all the time. Dont think I can take it much longer and that is exactly what they are hoping for. K--ls me to let them win.

The stress can sure get to you....was in a store in the deep south...went in weighing 157 and left 18 months later weighing 127.....Stress k--ls.....the DM (or MM) and the SM were fat and happy....ripping the assistants that would not play the game.

@ East Coast, yep, you're 100% right about that company chewing up good human beings and turning them into clones of your Steve Lutrell. I saw that happen to a few really decent people. One comes to mind, a personal friend named Will Hawes. When he was promoted to co, you could see the changes it rendered over his psyche...and ultimately even his physical health. Because he simply didn't have it to become evil. As a result of some serious emotional and gastro-intestinal disorders, he left the company for a retail competitor. ...... He since came back and was able to start over as an assistant. Now he's happy. :)

25 years here on the east coast, your not alone, we also have those type of managers and thank goodness 1 was just fired. Steve Luttrell was a manger fired years ago by AP then brought back when WM was in trouble and needed a nasty manager. He was at 1835 and would swear out loud at his asst managers on the floor in front of customers. Wouldn’t take customer phone calls. This went on for years so letters went to H.O. And a team came to store and they had lunch and nothing happened. Finally he was fired recently for an unknown reason. I can probably imagine what he did. Steve aside, Walmart has a way of turning good managers into Steve like people, as long as they make money their kept until something major happens, kinda like joe Pesci in good fellas lol. Hang in there hopefully your problem goes away soon.

@ Porterville, I can definitely relate. I've been with my store for almost 20 yrs and the current management line up is like the Nazi Gestapo. Like you said, nobody---not even the regional HR office---will do anything about any of it. You try calling anything in they tell u to open door it at the store level. UHHHH, B--ch I TRIED THAT. How do u call the police on the police? Ridiculous. Youd have to get a lawyer if u wanna make any real change and they know no ones gonna do that, so>>>>

Here in Porterville Ca we have the foulest store and co manager. They find it amusing that associates think they are bi*ches! They relish in the carnage they create. I have worked in this store over 25yrs and this is by far the worst store manager and co manager I have had the displeasure of working for. HR does nothing, market manager does nothing, and home office does nothing. So much for the open door policy. What a joke.
