Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

How much head reductions due to technology in the next 5 years?

This maybe a general topic, but this is something that got me thinking. Everybody is talking about the introduction of technology being responsible for the reduction of the worker headcount in the future. Let’s talk more precisely. How much less workers will be employed at WM in 5 years due to the application of automation and new technology in general?

I agree. A girls throat game has to be A+ or she is a below average female in my book.

If you're in a job or a position that can be replaced by a robot or by automation, then maybe you need to look for something else, don't you think? Or, go out and get a new skill. Or, go back to school. Technology and progress is not going to stop just because it's inconvenient for you.

Wow. Someone should bring that up at shareholders meeting! Hundreds and hundreds of layoffs and at same time paying one guy from 3 billion dollars.

Yeah executives just getting richer. Still hard to get over how much Walmart thought they had to pay to get slick talking Marc Lore. How can hie survive on a mere 3 billion dollar contract . Walmart should be plain embarrassed . Then they think they have to let long term associated go?

greed all greed. Share holders make all the money and the big exec's but employees who bust their butts get a small crumb of bread. Shameful isn't it? Robots replacing humans. Funny thing is, customers want human interaction, a person who can help them. When will they get it through their heads that they need to pay people a living wage, treat them well and maybe this would help with the engagement score and for people to want to show up to work, and work hard. Just think how things would be if they would pay people a fair wage and treat them WELL. I know that would motivate ME.

Both the Walmarts in my town have automated food vendors. Motion sensor activated kiosks with a female's voice chip that makes you jump when you walk by --'HI! Would you like to try some _?' Throughout all the years I worked there I never saw this coming.........but here it is.

I spent 7 days in Spain for Spring break - all fast food joints have self ordering. 50% of all supermarkets are self-checkouts. Spent some time in two Carrefour supermarkets, hardly saw any humans (mostly they were in specialty food isles slicking prosciutto and cheese at $30/lbs)... The future is bleak.

Fewer maintenance, receiving, stocker jobs. HR reduction. Courtesy desk will be reduced by AP hosts handling some returns. Department managers moving to teams. It will never end.
