From Bill Ruh down, upper management had no idea how to deliver on the promise of GED's assets. Bill's core competencies are blowing smoke up everyone's a--, hiring overpaid clueless acolytes unwilling to tell him the hard truth, and living in deep denial. All this while failing to enter the market with anything useful. The "app-led strategy" was a joke from the start and when they finally realized it, they pivoted frantically while their competitors beat them to the market. GED will go down as one of the great failures in the valley's history. Such a shame to waste so many great assets.

Its what you get when you hire people who have no industrial backgrounds and ask them to lead and set strategy for an Industrial IoT company. One of the VPs they hired for manufacturing software a few years ago actually had an out of office message that said he was visiting manufacturing plants to learn about manufacturing.
Too often, developers tell their product managers things are great and that message gets communicated up the chain. If what was built was worth anything, you can be sure it would be used.
it's management's job to ensure that what's being built will be useful from dev managers to product and project management.
It is not just management. Blame also falls on those who never developed anything useful.
And who will rise from the ashes to lead the NewCo?
