Thread regarding ShopKo Stores layoffs

Once again I repeat they did not pay severance to employees who closed before the liquidation announcement- if they are saying that they are lying. Shocker!

I agree that if you are financially able to stay through to the end it is the morally correct thing to do. However, it won't pay my house payment when my employment at Shopko comes to an end and I have been unable to line up another position. Our closing date has been extended once already. The time period needed for cleanup after the store closes has yet to be discussed. I over heard my manager talking and apparently he assumes I will stay for that also.

Honestly , I haven't expected the severance pay since the company went into liquidation. What I do expect is shopko Corporate to be honest, letting employees know the facts and keep us updated as they change.

Here are the facts: (1) There will be no severance for any store which closed after Shopko went into liquidation. While this has yet to be decided by the court, realistically, there are too many companies with claims ahead of our severance pay. These companies put their trust in Shopko and will be lucky to receive ten cents on each dollar our employer owes them. (2) Health insurance no longer exists for full time employees.

(3) So yes, no healthcare plan, no possibility of COBRA, assuming you could afford it in the first place.

If it works out to stay at Shopko to the bitter end, great. However, there is an old saying that seems appropriate, "Charity begins at home." Shopko employees need to take care of themselves, because no one else is going too.

well looks as though some aren't even getting a paycheck now by seeing some posts so dont blame any one of them for leaving when your not getting paid or promises that were made people have a future to plan and families to support.

it's too bad our management didn't have pride and appreciation in their employees and felt it was ok to talk trash about them up until the last day of being open even after they stick it out the whole time plus 3yrs too. I guess that must have been their way of saying thanks. I should have walked out of that hostile work environment 2 years ago. kudos to you, make sure to pat yourself on the back for staying those extra what 3 days after the store closed until they told you guys to leave the store once they filed chapter 7...

Thank god someone talked to media about no severance!!!! And yay for trying to take the high road and say “ well u don’t leave your team” we all get that but where did the shopko integrity go when u signed that contract? U stayed because it’s right thing to do well isn’t the right thing to do is pay you? Bottom line we were used and yeah we all have morals as to the right thing but don’t try to make any of this ok

I intend to stay till the end, I need a paycheck. This would be the ultimate slap in the face, if there is no Cobra. Our store isnt closing till May 28th.

Did you have to call someone to get the Cobra papers?

I'm getting COBRA now. My last day was 3.01.19. I received paperwork 3.10.19, filled out paperwork along with first check. Received new insurance cards 4.05.2019. Everything is good and I also stayed until last day
