Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Why are people leaving?

I understand the traditional fear of the company taking a fall, but from what I’ve seen there are not many competitors on the market that give better work conditions than Q ( in terms of bay, benefits, vacation….). On the other hand, I see people leaving left and right at my locations as they get jobs at other companies. What’s the deal? I, myself have no reason to leave other than traditional fears of cuts and the company taking a full, which I would probably have no matter where I work.

Because Qualcomm only pays market rate salaries to a chosen few (and only then because of mass attrition in those teams).

A lot of employees that have been there for a very long time leave for something different, more exciting. It is not the money because they are millionaires from stock options. Quite a few Employees that started in the 90’s retired in their 30’s. So if money isn’t a big deal, why stick around a negative environment?

Money is nothing...I wanted a bright future. I am so glad I left. Better money, smarter people, best company to work for ;)

I got out because I got tired of my two worthless managers making up my "matrix". My review was coming from these two paper-pushers who could neither do my job nor understand what I did. These are two guys who couldn't load a build on device. There was no way they could give a fair review. Some of the areas for improvement were laughable.

The things they would place priority on had little to do with getting the product out of the door.

The playing of favorites with projects, etc was ridiculous.

Thanking someone for going above-and-beyond was unheard of. I'm not talking about money, just to be acknowledged for really coming through.

People are leaving because of these kinds of toxicity.

The tech world is small and word gets out. What kind of person is going to be willing to take a job there?

OP, I quit because I didn’t want to work with people as clueless as you about reality.

I have to respect my manager, director and VP on a technical basis.

If they are in these positions because of seniority and a-- kissing, we had better not be a critical path for QCT.

But, there we were.

I quit because I was causing bad people to win. And get window offices.

Its not always about the

Money/benefits. People wants to work on interesting stuff in a winning company. They want to learn, grow, feel that their work has an impact. The issue is that its been about 4 years that QC is in a downward spiral with layoffs after layoffs despite having the same executives in place conveying the same message that everything will be alright. They broke the pact of confidence that bind them to the employees. They can sell their lies to the investors to keep their jobs, but from the inside we know its not good.
