Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

Why are they hiring if there are layoffs coming?

They just hired someone in my group. She is going to be really upset when she realizes what a mistake she made accepting the job. No one in my group is happy. No raises and now a new employee to fight for the work with.

The layoff will target people at the top of their pay grade so the can bring in a cheaper less experienced crowd. Management will be targeted as well. There are way too many chiefs.

I heard April 2019 is next layoff. Just in time to list your house for sale for the spring/summer selling season and just prior to the economic crash coming before 2019 is over.

Be grateful if you get laid off, sell what you can and prepare. A storm is coming. The economy is about to fall off a cliff.

Since you know a layoff is coming please put the date. As for hiring new people they don't know exactly what has happened over the past years. Seeing a new teammate as a competetor will lead to nothing usefull. The fact is that its coming up on a year since the last major layoff. If that year passes without another layoff its a step forward.

The last person they hired in my group left after less than one year. They were bored to tears and our boss was never around, so no direction or sense their job being important long term. They were smart enough to read the writing on the wall and leave.

The news says job growth is great, but that’s in the fast food sector and hotel/tourism industries. There are no good jobs out there if you are already making over 6 figures. might as well stay at dst and keep your salary than take a cut in pay. No company is a solid bet anymore.

I’ve been looking for 2 years. I can’t find anything that pays better at my level. I’m 49 and fear I’ll be here until they either lay me off or I retire. The economy sux.
