Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

I guess we'll see in 10 years which business model is better for the long term success of the company

The extra few bucks an hour will buy them happier, harder working, and more loyal employees and also give them "the pick of the litter" so to speak among retail employees. They will also have a better reputation and people will be happy to pay a little more to receive better service and support a company that values and treats its employees fairly. Walmart will use the complete opposite approach and continue to send all profits to the shareholders and executives, the employees will act accordingly with minimal effort and loyalty. I guess we'll see in 10 years which business model is better for the long term success of the company…

@ Consumer, I don't think anyone here liked your comments re. how you don't care about Walmart employees or what goes on in the stores----your attitude begs the question what the f**k are you doing on THIS page then?----but your descriptions of typical employees was dead on accurate. Again, not nice, but it's true many of the employees who stay beyond higher education did not desire that as their life's direction. And they are bitter and disgruntled and trend towards substance abuse and mental health issues, and they typically live from one pre spent paycheck and one avoidable disaster to another. Not nice, but accurate.

If management would drop the condescension and just be more professional but caring the money would we a secondary factor. When you are always constantly worrying about another shoe thats about to drop, you are always going to be anxious, and unproductive. Back 20 years ago Walmart was fun to work at. Now it drains your soul.

For the "I'm only a consumer poster" you're a short-sighted, shallow person who hasn't a clue of what you're talking about. You basically compartmentalize everyone working at WM as buffoons or losers in life. I myself had a long and distinguished career in the military and, upon retirement, wanted something to keep me busy. I ended up being with WM 15 years now and make very good money with home and vehicles paid off and money saved for the future. And a conscientious, intelligent consumer should always care about how companies treat their employees, the environment, the community, etc and spend their money accordingly.

Trader Joes and Costco actually treat their workers better and they have great results.

Most new employees to retail (in regards to Walmart and Target, at least) aren’t in it for the long haul. Many see it as a starter job after high school or college and don’t intend on staying there long. The ones that do are typically disgruntled anyway because their goals haven’t gone as planned.

Furthermore, speaking strictly as a consumer, I couldn’t care less how the company values its employees. Again, strictly as a consumer, it’s not my problem.

OP here. Forgot to mention , this is not my original post but a good post from @YrjulxW-1eda that I found on a thread about Target raising wages or its workers. Felt it deserved to be a thread.
