What will Walmart response be? Will they pay up to be competitive? If they do will the long term associates be forgotten (screwed over) again, or will we see the equivalent raise? I think I know the answer as I've seen how this company likes to operate. You truly want your "high performance culture"? Looks like it's time for Walmart to pay up or shut up.

dont know who the dork is blasting on dudes post re. wmart spying on their employees but I;ve seen it happen. I woudnt put ANYTHING past those people.
LOL that's the only thing that could make that story funnier! I want to know what management does when you're caught red handed applying at Target? Do they take your Birthday away? Make you pay back your 10 cent raise? Remind you that as a Walmart slave they own you? I'm sure theres some VERY serious repercussions...
@YrjulxW-2vdn - Was the WMT managment sitting in the lobby with fake mustaches? That would have been too funny...
Goober?? Ouch! Got any more good story's for us?
I got as far as 'WOW! Good st ....' and I filtered you and your 92 I.Q. persona out the way you wave away an irritating fly.
Go troll elsewhere, Goober.
WOW! Good story! Sounds just as stupid the second time. So Walmart sent not one or two but FOUR members of management to a Target hiring event just to "catch" anyone who dares to try and leave Walmart? Sounds believable LOL! If (a VERY big if!) this actually happened it just shows the level of paranoia and insanity that is Walmart. Regardless Target IS indeed raising its minimum to 13 bucks an hour vs Walmarts 11. What will Walmart answer be? And will the current employees just get screwed if they do actually play catch up? Why is Walmart the one playing catch up? I thought they said they wanted to be the "employer of choice"? LOL
I can see didn't post enough detail (tho average intellect should have easily filled in the miicro gaps):
1) Target set up a hiring event in the lobby of a local hotel. That's common for employers.
2) However it happened and whomever by, the rumor circulated that Target was starting new employees at $13./hr (this was about six years ago, so that was pretty impressive for retail in this area at the time).
3), y e s, my store dispatched four salaried managers to sit in that hotel lobby to 'meet and greet' any Walmart employees they recognized coming to this thing. Soooo......
4) again, I urge anyone working for Walmart and seeking to jump over to Target, do some thorough research first. ---As well as any job you're looking to switch over to or start fresh.
LOL at the previous post! Nice story home office! Yea the Walmart management will be sitting in Targets lobby hoping to catch anyone who dares to try to leave Walmart. Good one! Do a quick google search "target 13" and do some reading, I'm sure it's all just some fake news...
Don't anyone believe this sh!t til you see someone's pay stub! A few years ago a Target opened here in my town; the buzz was the same, gonna start off with huge bank, Target was looking for WM associates, blah blah blah. They had an open house /hire weekend event, half my store showed up----and learned the bitter truth. sure the starting wage was good, but nothing CLOSE to the rumor mill. Plus, four of our WM managers were sitting in the lobby of this event, going 'hey, wassup? You off today..? I thought you were supposed to be working!'
That's great! Looks like it's time for me to jump off this sinking ship! 👍
.
Target is saying that by the end of 2020, it will have a minimum pay of $15 an hour.
That means anyone that can, will work for Target. Walmart will get the leftovers in terms of new employees.
The extra few bucks an hour will buy them happier, harder working, and more loyal employees and also give them "the pick of the litter" so to speak among retail employees. They will also have a better reputation and people will be happy to pay a little more to receive better service and support a company that values and treats its employees fairly. Walmart will use the complete opposite approach and continue to send all profits to the shareholders and executives, the employees will act accordingly with minimal effort and loyalty. I guess we'll see in 10 years which business model is better for the long term success of the company...
Right, until Target cuts hours like Whole Foods.
Target has said they will be at $15 by the holidays and Walmart will be empty as associates jump ship.
Our MHRM said Walmart cannot afford to pay associates $13 dollars per hour. WHAT? I almost fell off my chair. I asked why? Its because Target can pay $13 since they don't offer associates full time employment and Walmart does. So not true. Time to stop the greed and pay associates more money. You want a "high performance culture" I say pay up. You get what you pay for. If you don't, the turnover will only increase. Oh, and treat associates like they are valued, not work horses.
