Very interesting. Left the company voluntarily on March 15th, and my last two paychecks (15th and 29th) were when they no longer taking out for medical insurance.
However, I just received a notice from UPMC regarding a service I received on 1/8/19. They send they sent the claim to BAS approximately 2 months ago and have yet to receive a response. Was I paying for insurance in 2019 for months I never really had? My blood is boiling.
This has happened to many people. I got an $800.00 bill for some tests, a well-woman checkup, and mammogram done in early February when we allegedly had insurance. All of this was considered preventative and should have been fully covered, as was verified by my provider at the time of service. They did not, in fact, pay the provider. Apparently, they just took our money and did not pay providers. This is an egregious breach of faith. I have filed a report with the US Department of Labor EBSA. They are already investigating DCEH, apparently. I am also speaking to an employment lawyer this week about it. In my opinion, we should all have all the money they took from our checks since January 1 refunded to us....

Bingo, this is why I got private insurance and everyone at our campus before the shutdown are deeply regreting not doing the same.
Medical claims were NEVER paid. As far as I can tell, no vendors aside from very certain landlords and the building needs corresponding to those have been paid regularly since the receivership. This seems to apply to all benefits, I'm afraid. Even though your provider may have taken your coverage upon your visit, that did not guarantee the claims were funded on the back end by BAS. The exceptions may be dental and vision since those were traditional group coverage plans and therefore did not rely on a claims pool being funded by money from employees and the employer contribution of DCEH.
Please also know that it is highly unlikely that this insurance format was chosen at random last fall... this provided a prime opportunity to give the appearance of coverage and ACA compliance without being held in a monthly premium contract by a traditional insurer/group plan.
So, no medical benefits, no COBRA, and no pay for most? That is horrible!
At least you got paid on 3/15...most of us haven't been AND the insurance we were promised doesn't exist AND there is no COBRA. Love how these Christians took care of us.
