Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Colleague Availability

What is the policy regarding availability? Can a store manager force an employee to work outside of their availability? The colleague’s availability is approved/set in myschedule.

You have a c-appy manager. I have a 4 week rotation to make sure the same people aren't working every weekend. Some weeks you might have 3 nights some weeks you might have zero. If you have a good culture in your store you don't run into these issues

This is exactly the problem right now at cvs. Everybody is sick and tired of the c-ap, and NO ONE wants to work nights and weekends anymore. And the reason for this is that CVS is the most UN-flexible company when it comes to the schedule. To the poster who mentioned not getting a weekend off unless you request one, that is true! Now, take a look a job posting for CVS... It always says YOU must be flexible, and you must be available nights, weekends and extended hours. Nowhere does it say flexible scheduling available, it says you must be flexible. So with that in mind, figure it out. People will put up with that for only so long, and CVS is losing a LOT of good people simply by their stubborn refusal to bend on scheduling. And yes working weekends is unfortunately part of the job, but working EVERY LAST WEEKEND, should not be allowed.

OP here again- I don’t put up with BS that people put up with at CVS and I actually stood up for myself. So I got it all figured out and keeping my original schedule. Everyone on this site complains and complains and you know what I bet you 10% of the complainers don’t stand up for them selves and just let things happen.

Get ready to work weeknights or forfit your hours to someone that will. You are a piece to the overall puzzle. If the piece doesn’t fit, they will look for another. Be the piece that molds into place and stop complaining....

Original poster here: my situation is that my manager told me I have to start working every weekend night. My availability has been every weekend day shifts for the last 7 years. Now 1) my availability is my availability and 2) I have been with the company for 7 years and I shouldn’t have to work EVERY Saturday and Sunday 3-11.

LOL @ 2 weekends a month. As a FTer the only time I had a weekend off was if it was requested. I tried to meet the needs to the business - give me ANY weekend in a month, I don't care which one! Instead that led to me working all non-requested weekends for 7 years. Some people should never be put in charge of a schedule.

They can not force you to work outside of your availability. However, they don’t have to put you on for the days you are available either. For example, if your availability is Monday from 9-5, and the needs of the store for Monday is 10-3- you might only be put on 10-3.

But the store manager can not force you to work outside of your availability. They can certaininly ask you to make special accommodations for them but can not reprimand you if you are unable to help.

A manager or pharmacist can not force you to work outside of your availability. But they can also find someone with better availability or give you no hours if the needs of the business need people else where.

i.e your only available overnight and now they only want to run with one person overnight. either you have to adapt or not have a job.
