Thread regarding Bloomberg L.P. layoffs

Layoffs are routine here

I’m sad to say that job security is a myth at Bloomberg. Layoffs are routine here, especially for the people who are in their fifties and up (actually, when I think about it, that number seems to be lowering lately - now even people in their late forties are not safe any longer.)

I used to be proud of my job, but that’s changing more and more the older I get and the more I notice some things that have been changing at the workplace for a while now. That’s really sad, because Bloomberg used to stand for something once upon a time. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

But I guess I don’t have to worry - I’m near the age where layoff will most likely become imminent.

It’s unconscionable.

I can think of at least 4 people laid off in the past few days, all over 45 and all with the same bullsh-t process… fake eval feedback and constantly changing the goals through reorgs and moving people around to new roles until one day you get invited into a room and the cowards can’t even look you in the eyes.

I hope you sued for wrongful termination by age discrimination

Your life becomes miserable around the age of 47 and your direct boss lets you know how much you are not appreciated. You are in a ho-e with no way to climb out and that’s how you know you’ve been age-discriminated against.

This pattern has gotten worse with each passing year. They aren't even trying to hide it anymore.

Yes, sadly, Bloomberg adheres to the law of 24: hire 24 year olds, who work 24 hours a day, for $24,000/year. The managers don't care about quality at all. Just feed the best. One editor actually said, "Post i–if it's wrong, we can fix it later." Not a news editor attitude

yes. as a former bbger, I pretty much learned anyone over 50 is gonna get cut. The solution? Be a young inexperienced reporter. If you're older, never take responsibility and push the blame to those young ones. Remember, comfort the comfortable and afflict the afflicted!
